I was a comic book reading cross country running metal head nerd from the Nashville suburbs. Didn’t even have my first real girlfriend until my freshman year of college.

Now I’m a 50 year old happily married father of three in Nolensville who flys around selling shit people want to be sold. Still listening to metal, run 2 miles every morning and I make a lot of money to buy comics.

Have the years changed me? Yeah. Am I completely different person? I don’t think I am. Maybe a little bit more jaded and cynical; a touch more pragmatic but I’m still a nerd. My wife reminds me she married down all the time!

High school: Genuinely kind, somewhat socially awkward (learned later that’s called introversion) stoner who was into writing, watching sports and also a fellow metal head. I wasn’t a social outcast or a cool kid. Just a regular guy.

Now: Somewhat less kind (to fools), socially introverted stoner who is married, owns a home and has a pretty decent gig writing and editing. I still love sports and metal.

I’m pretty much the same other than being a little smarter and a lot fatter and balder than I was in my glory days of the 1990s.

I too am very bald now.

High school (1994 grad) - kind, social person who was ALWAYS watching or playing sports. Was a decent student (not great) but did well when I was working in subject areas I enjoyed.

Now - kind. My wife always tells me that she thinks I want everyone to like me, but it's just not worth getting upset over small stuff or things outside of my control, so I get along with pretty much anyone. Still watch sports (play some) and my career has been in and around college athletics for 25 years. I'm currently the Director of Campus Recreation at Illinois State University and was able to run a prominent Division I basketball arena during my career. I'm still social and have a great group of guys who live on the cul-de-sac with me and we love garage beers with sports on.

I'm pretty much an older version oh my 18 year old self...with less hair and a back that gives me problems on occasion.

High school - I fit into all groups except the super-popular group. I was smart, although my GPA didn’t always show it. I was in band through freshman year. I ran CC and track for one year, and on wrestling team for one year. By second half of junior year I had a PT job so no extra curricular stuff. But by then I fit into with the pot heads since I had a fondness for, and could afford, marijuana. Was a music junkie hooked on the classic Rock of the 60s and 70s.

Now, divorced with two adult daughters. In a very happy long term relationship. 15 months short of retirement. Happy to be in a home that’s paid off, carrying no debt, and an adequate 401k balance. Still fairly healthy and love hiking, kayaking, playing volleyball. Still have a fondness for marijuana, although not nearly as often as back in the day. And a fondness for red wine on weekends. Still a music junkie, now hooked on all eras of Blues, Blues-based Rock, and classic Rock.

Good for you being close to retirement, being able to see the light and prepared to enjoy it. I turn 49 shortly and am feeling good about where we are right now and the plan to get there by 60.

Unrepentant band/music nerd, but had friends in all circles. Had one long-term girlfriend. I was also the kid that all the friends’ parents trusted to drive and generally not be a moron.

Still pretty much a music nerd. Fewer friends now because it makes life simpler. Married that long term girlfriend and we’re going on 30 years of marriage.

I still feel like that same young kid, but looks/hairline don’t agree.

Hated everything about high school except baseball, started on the high school team when I was in the eight grade. Looking back now don't know if I was that good or we just had a really bad ball team!!😂😂😂 Out of high school went to trade school, certified carpenter, used that trade to work R R Dawson Bridge company, building bridges on I-24 in Paducah. Entered the Army National Guard in 1970, still think WC was my drill instructor, meaner than heck!!!!! Installed carpet for nearly 40 years, still amazed I still have fairly good knees, about to turn 74 in less than a week!! Retired in 2016 from Dyno Nobel all in one piece! When I started they told me if hear the explosion you survived!! Married to a wonderful lady, God gave me a great one!!! I've had a good life! Lost a thirteen year old grandson on October 17 2021, absolutely the worst time in my life, still hurts, GOD has gotten me through it!!! Now I metal detect, arrow head hunt and do Stained-glass, a few of the members in here has pieces of my art work.

I grew up in Harlan and went to Harlan Independent which had around 200 kids in our high school at the time. Played baseball throughout, football my JR and SR year, and basketball my SR year. I was also on the academic team for “Quick Recall” - essentially Jeopardy.

I wore JNCO’s sometimes, but I was fairly ordinary to be honest. Growing up there you essentially knew everyone from kindergarten to HS.

Today I’m a former therapist turned arborist…

High school: pretty much got along with all the groups, mine was more the stoner/party clique. My parents gave me WAY too long of a leash and got into too much trouble. My senior year, cleaned up a little and made honor roll, which nobody thought was real. Pretty sure most thought my future was going to be in jail.

Now: married 20 years, two very well behaved smart kids with one on the way to Texas A&M. I spent my career in sales and have been retired two years. I’m in Japan now on a two week trip with my daughter and blessed to have been able to spend as much time with them as they’ve grown up.

The best thing I ever did was to get out of Owensboro. It’s a nice small town, but I had way too much energy for it.

Was a stoner honors program student who did not want to be on the honors track. Got along with almost everyone and still do, but my circle is much tighter so it is easy. Never played organized sports but always had a bball or fball in my hands and at the parks playing.

Family all from rural KY but I was mostly raised in inner city Louisville.

Now live in the country, married to the same woman for almost 40 years with grown children and a bunch of grandkids, not a stoner now but do love some bourbon and ice. Spent many years studying and teaching martial arts which was one of the biggest blessings in my life. A couple years from retirement and financially secure, which is a great feeling.

Lifelong Cats fan 😀

All in all life has been and continues to be amazing!!
