IMO when Cal gets a 5* pg, that's huge news because not only have we become SF U, PF U, C U, and SG U, he began his tenure as being the king of pg and made us in to PG U. It is huge news when he gets his guard.

Everyone knew IQ was committing, so Matt just went out on a limb with the "major news" thing in hopes Zion would commit this weekend, but when it didn't happen he could just say he was talking about the IQ commitment. That's my guess anyways.

It's kind of annoying how cavalier and unfazed a lot of UK fans are about IQ's commitment. People whine about recruits taking months to make a decision and dragging it out until April, but when a recruit is openly enthusiastic about Kentucky from the beginning of his recruitment and commits early, this is the reaction they get. They get taken for granted. And our reaction should be the opposite - we should be the most excited about these pure-blue kids who have bought in fully. We can't be surprised when players don't do what IQ did, fan bases and the sports media have created every incentive not to from a personal marketing standpoint.

So, let me help everyone out: IQ's commitment IS huge recruiting news. We just got the best PG in the class, who also happens to be the most competitive player in the Top 10, a great shooter, a tenacious defender who never takes plays off, and a close friend of Zion Williamson. IQ would be the absolute star of any team in America not named Kentucky or Duke.

Keep in mind that Matt is talking to the KSR audience in general, most of whom aren't as plugged in on UK's recruiting as most of us are. For that audience, getting a commit from a Top 10 recruit like IQ is huge news.

This is exactly the truth. We sometimes forget that the number of posters and lurkers on this board is just a tiny percentage of the UK fanbase. When I talk to other UK fans who never check out this board at all they seem to not know very much about things such as recruiting until something big is announced and that is a very large portion of KSR's listeners. They may hear some things from listening to that show from time to time but they are not as plugged in as most followers of this board. So, the IQ announcement is very large for the majority of UK fans.

You mean to tell me he's not talking to another radio stations audience? who'd a thunk it?

Just quoting this so people at the bottom of the thread can read it too.

I agree ..... lots of fans do not follow or post on the board. Good post.

I can only imagine many of us took "major recruiting news" as a surprising set of news on top of Quickley's announcement. I don't think anyone is NOT excited to have IQ, but it was a foregone conclusion he was committing. Major recruiting NEWS would mean new info on unknown information. As someone else said, I think Matt just said that to be first for Zion and if/when nothing happened, he could pin it on IQ. I have been waiting for his commitment for forever like everyone else and couldn't be happier, but I thought "major" news meant something like Bol or Williamson or Barrett. Just my $0.02.

It would be a massive lack of intelligence to not have deciphered the recruiting news was about IQ by Friday because even Matt said it on air that morning.

So this thread is another attempt at bashing Jones and KSR because some let jealousy go so far and so dark they'd belittle a UK recruit committing to us.. a top 10 one none the less. And yes, saying his committment wasnt considered major recruiting news is belittling him. But to hell with people who just dedicated themselves to your basketball happiness........ gotta bash that Matt Jones guy right???? Am I right?

To those who really just let hope take over their better judgment to think it was about Zion or Barrett.......... you cant blame anyone but yourself for that. if either were committing to make it the major news you wanted... you know when those two are going to decide it would be a national hoopla event... and if it was just about UK becoming a leader or something.... thats not major news either since it can change easily by the time they decided..

Don't get the outrage one way or the other. Was Quickley's commitment huge? Absolutely. He's a top ten talent. On the other hand, most people had come to expect that it was just a matter of time before he committed. Don't think anyone could really argue that Zion - a better prospect and one with more intrigue - would have been a bigger story.

People just had differing ideas on a somewhat vague cliff hanger.

I am sure we are at the point were Zion could commit, but people would complain because "we knew once IQ committed it was only a matter of time before Zion announced he was going to play with his BFF."

If we can't get excited for a top-10 player, then we don't deserve them. Thankfully the OP doesn't represent anything other than his own small-minded views.

Huge news is Zion. EVERYONE knew IQ was Kentucky bound
I honestly can't tell if you are being sarcastic or just being a moron. Anytime you add a top 10 pg it is huge recruiting news. Hopefully this is just parody of how dumb UK fans can be at times and not a said case of it . Also getting IQ makes getting Zion very very likely.

Matt Jones has about as much chance of predicting some major recruiting news as he does of beating Mitch McConnell. The guy's a clown.

What is this supposed to mean? I mean he did predict Quickly would commit to UK.

He sent out his tweet about a commitment before Quickly announced a date for his decision. So obviously Matt Jones had the info before it was public.

It seems to me that you were trying to say something else. Because anyone can predict recruiting news. I can predict we will sign Zion Williamson. That's it I've already completed the prediction. There's nothing further for me to do because I've already predicted it.

I mean who honestly sets there and types out these Shittu jokes and thanks "man, everyone will think this is funny, I'm hilarious"
They are awful. All of em..
Loosen up Shittu Head..... Sorry, just couldn't pass up the chance to be hilarious and awful at the same time. Thank You and good night.
