At the end of the game, no one knows or remembers anything a referee did during the game. Their calls have been fair and no one notices their effect on the game.

Unfortunately, the SEC officials feel they are the stars of the game. They over react to even the most simple calls. Its like they have been to acting school and are competing with the other refs for an award.

What happened yesterday was a disgrace to anyone in the referee profession. And not just from a UK fans perspective.

A good referee is one that does the job they are paid to do without bias and without making it be about them. They have to be consistent on both sides of the ball and against both teams.

What we have seen multiple times this year is not what I listed above. The calls have been blatantly one sided in almost every game we've played, with our opponent coming out ahead. Referees like Doug Sirmons and Pat Adams have made sure they have inserted themselves into the outcome too many times.

The person in charge of officiating needs to do something about this now and if they won't, it is time for them to be replaced with somebody who will.

A good ref doesn't anticipate fouls. I hate when someone drives on a break away layup and the defender waves at him and they call an and one.

Just curious, how do you know how the officials feel. I was as disappointed as anyone about the call, and you are incorrect saying it was a disgrace to all officials. The ref did what he was supposed to do. I don't have a rule book before me, but my common sense tells me there is no certain time that you don't make a call. Any thing within the 40 minutes should be called.

I do know that a player is not supposed to slam the ball to the floor whether it be celebration or disagreement. It certainly isn't the height of the bounce that determines whether it should be called or not. In other word refs should not be required to carry a tape measure.

Also no one has commented about the reaction if ref did not make any call. Don't you think there would have been a strong protest by the other side. So the ref can't satisfy both sides, he did his job and certainly was not a disgrace to his profession.

Its fans like you that try to bend or tweet the rules to your satisfaction.

Actually, the rules have been posted on here numerous timespecially and no where does it call for an automatic technical. So the one actually bending ruses here would be, you.

A good ref makes sure at the end of a game, the fouls are equal......................

A good ref communicates with the players.

"Hey guys, getting a little rough in here. Next time you put your hands on him, it's a foul."

That sort of thing. Bad refs are inconsistent and full of surprises.

I remember a few weeks ago. Cal made the comment that the refs weren't calling the games like they were early in the season so he decided to go back to "football practices".

In my opinion some refs took offense to Cal saying that they weren't doing their jobs. Ever since then we've been a bunch of games where refs have swallowed their whistles and or been a part of some questionable calls.

Now i'm not saying refs are out to get us and singling us out. I've seen other teams where refs are doing the same thing. I agree with Cal that refs called games one way before the conference play started and now are calling games another way.

I'm not sure I understand why they do it... feels like they just become lazy doing their job.

Several years ago while attending a clinic, part of the clinic dealt with umpires, refs; they had a rep there speaking on behalf of umpiring and he said this:
In every game, there are three teams on the field each game, your team, the other team, and the officials.
If the officials do their jobs correctly, at the end of the game you should not even think about them, talk about them or ever give a thought to them being in the game at all. Good officials understand that with every call they make, 50% of the crowd will disagree with them usually. But good officials do not want to make a call that influences the outcome of a game unless it is determined to affect the game while in progress.

This was said to me while in St. Louis at a clinic.

Point is, Prick Adams wanted to let everyone know that he was in charge. That call may have been correct in the rule book, but the book is written as a guide line and not the gospel. If so, why didn't he call techs on both coaches for being out on the floor while the game was going on?
Hell, near the end of the game in regulation, Tyler was dribbling the ball near the UK bench with Cal out on the floor talking to him.

This was poor judgment on the part of the official.

A "good ref" seeks out the pulse of the game and calls within it. If you call out of the pulse, you see what we have been seeing. The ref last night had no idea why Hump did the ball that way. If he had of, he would have handled it differently. I called First Region for 13 years. It took me 6 or 7 years to learn about the pulse of the game. When you call within it, it's easy and flows. Otherwise, it's a mess. Still pissed. FCC.
