Seems like we had all the pieces this year for the front court. Why do we continue to have problems with rebounding, aggressiveness.

Is it the talent ?
Lack of drive ?
Motivation ?
Coaching ?
Lack of talent evaluation ?

Should we be sitting Poythress and Skal ? But, then, when you go down that road, it creates chemistry and divisiveness issues.

Skal is soft and Poythress is too inconsistent

Sometimes, Poythress looks like a 1st round pick like he did against Louisville. then, other games, he looks like he is just out of it and going through the motions.

Maybe he is worried about his draft position.

He should be.

Draft position? He is like 30 with w series of injuries over the past few years.

We have two freshman from down under that have not been given a chance, yet we have 0 production down low. Would it have been any worse with at least giving one of them a chance?

Our big men are limited on offense, Poy and Lee and Skal hasn't come around and maybe a little soft and if they are not ready to play every game, they will lose some because we are the only team that matters to opponents. Kentucky never slips up on anybody,we have never had that luxury, so when we play teams on the road we have to overcome them shooting out of their minds, strange calls and rabid crowds that intimidate officials, combine all of those things and it's hard to come away with a win.

We need a back to the basket 4 or 5 that you can throw it in to that can attract a double team among other things . I wonder if Skal can hit a hook shot , that might help him since he can't get good position down low .

Hard to hit a hook shot if you can't get in position for it, unless you want him attempting hooks from 15 feet

Back up players playing starter spots. When players can show flashes of playing well, but not consistently or very often, they should be back ups. We don't have that luxury this year.

It's a tough question. In short, Lee can't create his own offense and can't hit a jump shot. Poythress is wildly inconsistent. And Skal just isn't what we thought he was. I think Cal expected Skal would be the consistent scorer and that Poythress and Lee would be able to focus on rebounding, defense, lob dunks, and the like. But it's turned out that Poythress is our best post scorer, and he's just too bipolar. Truth is, none of them are close to ready for the NBA if they can't be more consistent.

What would it hurt to try Hump and Wynard? If we are gonna suck at least try something different.

He catches the ball closer than fifteen feet , I guess your being sarcastic . If there's any shot that can create space , it's a hook . Skal is a face up shooter that teams are crowding because they know he can hit it if left open . Cal is also trying to develop his low pot game to help him diversify his game , Skal is struggling with that right now . Cal has players develop weak spots instead of just letting them do what they're only good at . I think it's a reasonable option .

They were recruited by most everyone in country and have shown flashes so yes they have talent
Drive = some games they bring tons of energy other games a big fat 0
motivation - doesn't seem to
coaching Cal is a HOF
everyone evaluated them as 5 stars so no

I agree about everything but him worrying about his draft position. If he was concerned about that I highly doubt he would be so apathetic about the game. He just seems disinterested in playing at times.

Now there's an idea I hadn't considered. Go to your player's weaknesses and ignore their strengths .Now we know why I don't get the big bucks.

The biggest problem is that none of them are dominant offensive players with go to moves in the post. Poy has his moments. But is too inconsistent. Skal could be the answer and seemed to be earlier in the season but just doesn't have enough beef. The other problem is that it seems like our guards are taking most of th shots and our bigs are just there for put backs or rebounds.

I still think the guards are struggling to get the ball into the bigs while they are in scoring position. These guys are not creators. I also think the big guys are a bit passive without the ball too. Bad combination.

They are not the players Cal hoped would be out there. He wanted Dakari, Zimmerman, Bragg or Diallo

Lee ticks me off. Does not have one low post move. Unless it's a lob or put back dunk, he can't score.
Poythress is a lost cause. Can't dribble. Can jump as high as he wants but gets his shot blocked because he doesn't understand positioning. Gets too far under the basket. No more time to waste on him.
Skal/Humphries/Wynard are the hope. Skal is getting better, just slowly.
Willis needs more minutes. Let Wynard and Humphries bang down low. Let Mulder/Hawkins/Milder get more minutes.
Leave Lee and Poythress on the bench. Can't win with them. It's been proven.

Exactly. Cal, and everyone else thought Skal was who they said he was. Turns out he isn't. Win some, lose some.
