What are the estimates on results?
I like Mathews, but he obviously isn't as productive on the offensive end, or the defensive.

If Briscoe played, we would've had two ace defenders on the perimeter and Lee wouldn't have gone off.
I thought Mathews played fairly well. He shut his guy down on defense more than once.
Very excited about his future at UK.

Murray would have had a running mate to make senseless drives, take I'll advised shots and turn the ball over with.
It's hard to say. He's our best perimeter defender, but Hawkins hitting 3s and Briscoe not being on the floor really opened up the court more for driving lanes and gave Poythress more room to operate posting up or in the high post. Murray likely wouldn't have forced as much had Briscoe played since Hawkins isn't in for much on offense other than spot up shooting and wide open dunks/layups
I'm pretty sure he was taking about that other Lee...the one that scored 27 and almost willed a shitty team to a win at Rupp.

it's hard to say how we would've done with Briscoe - his defense is really good, his offense isn't.
Closest I could guess at is that we would've scored fewer points (no Hawkins threes) but Lee for UofL wouldn't have gotten off some of the shots he did.

I actually had the OP's thought myself especially after the cal encouraging briscoe to shoot thread earlier this week. No way to determine what briscoe would have done in today's game but we do know what hawk gave us. If briscoe plays hawk most likely doesn't play or plays very little.
I think hawk is rather underutilized by cal. He plays excellent defense can hit the 3 ball and can hit the pull up from 12-15 out. We would see more consistent output from him if his minutes and leash were longer IMO. I was infuriated with him today though passing up that last three and taking a shot clock violation. Solid game otherwise.
I'm impressed most with how Willis has stepped his game up this year...you can't teach his offensive skill set or his size and able to play on the perimeter like he does!! But imo if Hawkins and Willis do not play like they did today than UK does not win this game..
Briscoe would have likely would have helped on the boards, and he can create for others some off the dribble drive instead of creating some crazy shot or turnover like Murray tends to do
Maybe he plays better defense on Lee but then again Hawkins gave you much better offense than Briscoe.
As a Card fan I am confirm able saying at least today UL not having Mango was much bigger than Usk not having Briscoe.
If UK shots 3's like that they are a really good team.

Actually he didn't pass up the 3 as Lee ran out on him .. but he did pass up the FT line jumper after the jump out
Watch Dom's minutes the next game along with DW...only reason you think I'm terrible is because I have a different opinion than yours...do you really think he would have done any more and that Dom and DW don't have the shortest leashes on the team

Hawkins had his best game as a Cat, but the game plan had IB in it and had to be re-worked with minutes to go in the game. We broke them down on drives and Briscoe is good at that, he is also a pretty good defender as has been mentioned. Can't complain, and congrats to Hawkins on his big day.
It's impossible to predict. All we can do is guess. His defense is excellent, his ball handling is solid, his ability to get to the rim is the best on the team and he finishes well in traffic. But his perimeter shooting is suspect and his free throw shooting is suspect as well.
I love the way everything turned out today. I wouldn't change a thing.
