What changed for the offense this week?

They pointed this out on the broadcast and you could see it often but they went to several snaps of routes where it was 4 wide and they didn’t do the ‘layered’ route stuff Coen likes to run and just ran spacing offense. Simple stuff where there is room between each of the reciever routes. We also had a couple of tight end run crossing routes underneath where it was all cleared out going 4 wide. We didn’t completely run that only but it seems to be Leary’s forte and probably got him comfortable and made it easier to throw the other stuff too. It’s still nearly impossible for us to ever score outside of the 20’s unless there is some other phase of the game score or get us a really short field.

They said Coen tried to implement what leary is best at during the off week with trying 4 wides. And passing game was indeed encouraging just on its own but I can’t understand things like why do we wait til mid year to ask or research his old film from nc state to evaluate these things. Especially with a transfer. There isn’t time to burn.

1. Utlized our tightends
2. Used middle of field
3. Didnt run near as much play action allowing Leary a quicker view down field
4. Improved O line protection.
5. 4 wide out sets

Played a great game except on some 3rd and 4th downs. The line did not open any running holes which made them a little one dimensional though.

Yeah obviously the biggest thing was having more time to throw (O-line pass blocked very well all game) and receivers not only
not dropping balls, but also making some tough catches to help Leary out.

The chemistry between him and the receivers was also sooooo much better. It really stood out to me on some of those out/corner routes to Dane Key, he’d throw it before Dane even broke out and Dane would break at the perfect time for an easy catch. Didn’t see that at all the first few weeks of the year.

They opened up the NC State playbook for the first time in 8 games.

This might be an unpopular opinion, but I weirdly feel a little bit better about the last 4 games of our schedule just because it seems like we’ve figured the passing game out atleast somewhat. Prior to this game I kinda thought it was just gonna stink all year.

I think we’ll be able to get Ray going against MSU/USC/UL (will probably still struggle with Bama), and I atleast have some semblance of hope that when we’re not playing against Tennessee’s offense (which we just absolutely have not been able to solve since they hired Heupel), the defense won’t look nearly as bad as it did tonight.

On the flip side, it wouldn’t shock me if we lay an egg against MSU and struggle to get to 6 wins.

I feel better about the msu/sc games but we just seem so lackluster so often anymore I don’t know what to expect

Wrs were finally where they were supposed to be and caught the ball. Leary made some beautiful anticipation throws (that he made all year) but this time the wrs were on the same page. Good news of course but they played mostly man, so hopefully our zone sits/holes will be on the same page too.

The other thing was we didn't force it nearly as much (other than the wildcat nonsense). We saw them stack the box and threw it. We also didn't force touches to brown, which opened the offense up for Leary to make reads instead of forcing

UT gave us the pass to take away RD
Agree. It was single high safety to take away Ray and Ky was superb…kudo to Coen and Leary and receiving core…A dang good game.

My only negative that would have bad it A+ was two drives bogged down at rhe 35 yard line going into Tennessee territory…left points in boards. But that throwing was what we’re looking for all yewr and they deliver…and the Oline blocked and picked up all the blitzes
