What are the rules for players eligible to go to pros

The basic answer is anyone who is 21+ or has been in college for 3 years is eligible. We will likely lose a ton of players.

We know we lose Heyer, Squires and Becker ( seniors ), and will almost certainly lose Pompey, Hjelle, Cottam and Lewis. Those are 7 quality players.
I believe we will get Aklinski, Dawson, Shinn, R Johnson and A Rod back, who could go. We also return Machamer, Z Thompson, T J Collett, C Coleman, J Ramsey, Z Lewis, Hazelwood, Harper, C Hill.
We have several guys sitting out this season, ie. B Jordan, A Miller, and a couple of RS's maybe. With the incoming class as well, we should still be pretty good in 2019.

I assume Haake will return also.

Machamer is a draft eligible sophomore. He could go high in the draft, especially if he keeps pitching like he has been lately.

Watch out for incoming JuCo recruits Dalton Reed and Breydon Daniel. The two of them combined have hit THIRTY EIGHT homeruns this season.

While Haake has struggled, his stuff is still very good and he throws pretty hard. The mlb has the ability to draft some on potential and Haake has that. Last I looked he was like a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick.

He's consistently touching 95. Scouts will be loving him for that alone. Add in the nasty hook and he's a popular guy.

I guess he'll be draft eligible because he'll turn 21 before the draft. Losing him will be a tough pill to swallow.

We also lose Schaenzer and Maley out of the pen.

Wow. That high? He sure hasn’t shown it at UK. Not all of it his fault though.

He's possibly dropped some because of his performances, but still I think scouts will like that he throws hard and has some good off speed pitches and that in a lot of his outing he avoids walks. His fault lately has been that he's actually filled the strikezone too much. It would only take a couple of outings to have him jump back up the rankings.

Haake will likely come out of the pen in pro ball. The injury to Thompson basically forced him into the starting rotation.

Really, that would suck to lose 2 Juco's before they even get to campus !

Many players go the JUCO route because their draft eligbility is not as restrictive as players that go to four year schools. They can be drafted regardless how many years they have attended the junior college. In other words, they are draft eligible after their freshman or sophomore years at any age. The competition is usually better than what they faced in HS and there are plenty of opportunities to catch a scout’s eye. Albert Pujols is the poster boy for JUCO baseball. He went pro after one year of JUCO ball.

In last year’s MLB draft there were something like 12 JUCO players drafted in their first five rounds and I believe all them signed.

Few players with any aspirations of playing pro ball at all come back for their senior year. They lose all leverage at that point.

I believe JUCO players are eligible after 2 years. They probably can and will go to SEC to significantly increase their draft stock. I'm sure Luke Heyer has done that this year. Most need to prove they can cut it in a better league.

JUCO players can be drafted after their freshman and/or sophomore years regardless of age.

For what its worth, Troy Black says he'll be here next year. Not sure what happened with him this year.
