What 4 additional players would you add to our current 9 man roster for next season? Transfer portal and/or high school players?

My 4 would be

Jaron Pierre Jr - 6'5" guard
Nate Ament - 6'9" small forward
Yaxel Lendenborg - 6'9" - PF/Center
Zvonimir Ivisic - 7'2" PF/Center

Give me Ivisic & Lendenborg both. Because of Ament skinny body & his ability to shoot the 3, I look at him as a small forward. So we need 2 more bigs to go along with Garrison & Moreno. If we've only got 3 players at the 4/5 positions and one gets hurt we've got no back up. And seeing how that Ivisic & Lendenborg are big enough to play under the basket & can also step out and shoot the 3 they can both play together..... Add these 4 players to our current roster & we're 2 deep at every position if we can keep the injury bug away this team is Final Four bound.

Realistically, I’d take Pierre, Lendeborg, and Folgueiras and roll with a lineup of:

Pierre/Lewis
Johnson/Chandler
Oweh/Williams
Lendeborg/Folgueiras
Garrison/Moreno

Perry/Noah

However, after the injuries we dealt with this season we would ideally sign another true point guard, which would allow you to slide Pierre over to SG and have Johnson as a sub and not a starter. That would also bump Chandler down to third string, if that’s the case I think we’d be a very, very good team based off of the progress he made this season.

Pierre
Yaxel
At least 1 more strong combo guard
At least one more 5 that can shoot (not Z)
Maybe another wing to spell Oweh

Got 15 scholarships to use, use em all. Get some toughness though, we need to match the physicality of the rest of the SEC.

I think this is the most optimistic but also doable scenario as of today. We would probably see the two PFs being in together in crunch time.

Of who we’ve been linked to so far I think I’d take the following three, but I think we need a pure point too - just not sure who that may be yet. I don’t think we’ve can rely on the two freshmen guards and a sophomore Perry to run point. And we are still super early into the portal season so this may not be even close to who we end up with.

Jaron Pierre Jr. - wing
Alvaro Folgueiras - post
Yaxel Lendeborg - post
Portal Pure PG

So the rotation would be 10 guys:

Portal PG / Lewis
Pierre / Johnson
Oweh / Chandler / Williams
Lendeborg / Folgueiras / Williams
Garrison / Folgueiras

I think Perry and Noah may have to take another year before they really come into their own and earn a rotation spot. This year they were thrown into it because of injuries, which will serve them well, but they just weren’t ready to contribute in a final four level team.

I wouldn’t mind having big Z back but would much rather have his brother if he were to enter the portal. I like the combination of Lendeborg/Folgueiras to complement Garrison and Moreno. I think Garrison and the two transfers could hold it down with Moreno coming in as a reserve and learning the system. Would love for Moreno to come in mid year and start contributing significantly, but not counting on it.

And Ament would certainly be nice to have but I think I would favor the experience and physical maturity of a guy like Pierre as a scoring wing.

Jaron Pierre - G
Alvaro Folgueiras - PF
Yaxel Lendenborg - PF
Aday Mara - C

Get Max Green and some others as bench players and let's roll.

I do not understand why anyone wants Ament. He'd get snapped in half like a Slim Jim in the SEC and then possibly transfer out or be a OAD. Why shell out any money at all for that?

I like your first 3 but after the information that got put out by @ralphdaltonfan about Mara I'd say No TY to that one. I just honestly don't know who I would take in that 4th spot.

That’s 2 walking double doubles starting in the front court. A 4th player could be an elite shooter or an upgrade at center I can see arguments both ways. Would put us at 12 players with those 3 so I can’t see much more happening. At least 10 of the 12 are gonna expect minutes with Perry and Noah accepting 11-12 in the rotation

If Garrison is our starting center next year then we are in serious trouble.

No to Ivisic. You Cal guys have to let that era go. That guy can’t play a lick.

Ament was frequently pushed out of bounds while dribbling to the basket in the game Tuesday. He is very weak and able to be knocked around way too easily

Garrison has the size and natural ability to be a great player. If Pope can show him the love and maturity, he will be very important to us. I do not want to give up on him yet- I believe he’s a real player soon

I hope you're right!

I doubt anyone yelled at the TV more than I did when Garrison was on the floor last year but there’s absolutely potential there. He was every bit as instrumental to the win @Oklahoma as Oweh was, it was just less flashy and happened earlier in the game. We just need more games like that and a lot less duds, even if he just puts up marginal numbers and plays good defense there’s enough other “dudes” in that lineup to put up some serious numbers.

Realistically.

Lendeborg
Ament
Pierre
Folgueiras

Throw a bag at each one, starting with Lendeborg.

PG Pierre/Lewis/Perry
SG Oweh/Johnson/Chandler
SF Ament/Williams/Noah
PF Lendeborg/Folgueiras
C Garrsion/Moreno

Jaron Pierre
Lendenborg
Folgueiras
__________ ???
Steen/Freeman (depth
Agreed. Need somedepth pieces.

Whatever happened to Max Green? He would be perfect, IMHO.

And Freeman (the D2 kid).

That’s a coupe of 6’7-6’8 ish dudes that can play multiple positions.

PG Pierre/Lewis/Perry
SG Oweh/Johnson/Green
SF Ament/Williams/Noah
PF Lendeborg/Folgueiras/Freeman
C Garrsion/Moreno

You are the first person on here that has ever accused me of being a Cal guy...... You put Big Z in the weight room this off season & pack on an additional 15 to 20 pounds so that he doesn't get shoved around under the basket & with his ability to shoot the 3 & pass the way he can. In the Mark Pope system he would be at the very least an All SEC 1st teamer if not an All-American. The guy has offensive skills running out his ears.

The problem with that theory is that he isn’t 18. The dude has had time to get in the weight room. He has not focused on that part of improving or it isn’t working. What makes you think it will change?

I really would like to add Ament at SF, but I feel like that ship has sailed.

So, if we are being realistic, we probably could get Jaland Lowe. Pierre is more or a combo and can play off the ball.

PG Lowe/Lewis/Perry
SG Pierre/Johnson/Green
SF Oweh/Williams/Noah
PF Lendeborg/Folgueiras/Freeman
C Garrison/Moreno

Man, we would be big inside with Garrison, Moreno, Lendeborg, and Folgueiras. All four can play the 5 and probably all of them can play the 4. Not sure about Moreno just yet, but anyway, we should be able to keep two bigs on the floor most of the time.

I would be pretty excited with that lineup.
