What 2 teams offered Drake Maye 5 mil?

I just don't see this being a feasible model for 95% of the schools if a guy like Maye can get offered 5 million per year
Maye will be the #1 NFL draft pick in 2024. If eligible he would be #1 in 2023. 99.999% of college players are not at his level of talent. And couldn't draw $500 in NIL, much less $5M.

Which proves my point that only the richest programs that can/will shell out 5 million for 1 player will continue to get the best players and the other teams will fight each other for scraps.

And yet with the best QB in CFB UNC went 9-4, lost to Georgia Tech with an interim coach, barely beat awful Miami & Virginia.

Maye turned the best programs down. Arch Manning ain't exactly going to a successful team. The Tulane QB reportedly has also turned down big time schools wanting him to transfer

CFB isn't any diff now than the past, usually dominated by the same 20 schools who get the best players. But unlikely upsets will still happen, and that is what makes it awesome.

Why anyone not directly connected with the team would give a college player $5M is beyond all rational thought, IMO.

Mike Farrell (sp?) said on ESPNU Full Ride SXM that Leary is getting no less than $2-3 million and upwards of $4 million!

All of the NIL money needs to be pooled and distributed amongst all athletes of a school.
Again. This would be illegal under the law. You would get sued by the more valuable players. It would also be impossible to get all schools to abide by it. When there were rules in place about paying players those same schools cheated. Why wouldn’t they cheat with this agreement. It still kind of blows my mind how in America, we can’t get our public institutions in charge of education to stop cheating. The people in charge should have very high moral standards and immediately fire anyone that breaks the rules.

Bama and UGA is my guess

In spite of what osu has said UGA is not into the bidding wars to get kids to sign, just won a NC with a walk on QB, why offer a kid from a run of the mill ACC team 5m?. OSU writers/fanboys just spewing sour grapes that a southern school beat them for a kid. UGA promotes the NIL for current players and getting developed for the NFL draft not to sign.

If I were going to place a wager, one of the teams would be AU, Mr Yellowwood wants to win the SEC and Freeze came for a bargain compared to other coaching hires. Bama could be the other, but vols are into buying QBs so I wouldn't dismis them.

I agree, but technically, UT's deal is a 4yr/$8M deal I believe, while this would be 1yr/$5M.
After winning 3 straight Heismans and 3 straight NCs the guy will bolt to the NFL after 3 years. And with it being TN I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't $8M/yr.

This. If he were offered $5 million, he'd be gone.
As has been pointed out in this thread, Knoxville paid guaranteed $8M for 4 yrs for a freshman who hasn't played 1 second of CFB.

I have no doubt the $5M is real. A high level QB is worth $10M to Bama or Ohio or Georgia, that is literally the 1 thing those 3 schools need to win the 2023 Natl Championship.

Why didn't he take it, simple, UNC matched it or came damn close.

Exactly, anytime any school gets beat for a recruit its because of the NIL deaals, Anyone can claim anything and make some believe it and not have to prove any of it. We beat tOSU for a DL kid and it's immediately from their camp its UGA paid more, couldn't have anything to do with 5 first round Defensive players taken in 22, or 4 who will be taken in the 1st round the last 2 years. Could be Mack is at the point he can't come up with a game plan to beat good teams and the kids wants a ring, nah couldn't be that.

Tennessee would whore their own mother out for an SEC East title. Paying players is no issue whatsoever. Dirtiest program in the entire ****ing country.

Are you scared of socialism? Do you enjoy the police and fire department? Military? Any public service? That's socialism too.
Socialism is for losers. Just doesn’t work. The reason China is eating our lunch right now and should surpass us economically is they finally adopted a capitalist economic system 42 years ago to go with their autocratic rule . They don’t call it that intentionally but that is what it is .
in those 42 years China has brought more people out of poverty into the middle class than any nation in history . Read Changing world order by Ray Dialo .
On the other hand countries like Venezuela show us what socialism brings .

China's economy is certainly not capitalist. I'm more for democratic socialism, which does work.

Yeah, works great in Europe if you have a sucker like the US to provide most of your country's defense for you.
When that teat runs dry, spending most of your gov monies on social programs becomes unmanageable. On top of that, any observation of history would tell you that depending on the benevolence of government over their subjects/ citizens is a fool's errand.

I mean UK was accused of offering Jordan Addison 800,000 by Pitts coach before he entered the portal back in May. Maybe it was stoops and Co.

Good memory. It was actually 12 months ago, right after the bowl before Coen left. We made a damn strong bid to get the reining Beltnikoff award winning wide reciever. He turned us down, we got Tavion Robinson instead.

Allegedly Pitt paid him to stay, he got the cash & went through Spring, then was bought by Southern Cal.

Dialo runs the biggest hedge fund. In the world . He has spent a significant portion of his life in China and he says the economic system is capitalist but Xi laughs when others point that out to him and responds “ what difference is it it if a cat is black or white as long as it is healthy “ .

The difference in their capitialist system and ours is that their government is autocratic . China argues their system is better because they care about the community as a whole while we concentrate on individual rights . That they have an intelligentsia of 3000 of the brightest choose their leader where we permit every uneducated Citizen to vote in a system where the public officials can win elections by bribing the people with their own money .
Of course I think there argument is flawed and really results in a autocratic dictatorship but reality is they dId in fac adopt a capitalist economic system 42 years ago and have Taken more people out of abject poverty in 42 years than any nation in history .
Capitalism works .

Agree with your comment . Several major corporations I have worked with all expressed frustration over the socialistic work rules in Europe . Everybody taking off August particularly drives them crazy .

We haven't seen the contract and know one way or the other. I read that his contract is like 2.3 mil a year but is based off of his mkt value and him doing appearances and so forth. It isn't 8 million guaranteed if true. He was getting around 1 mil this year b4 he enrolls for appearances during visits and during the spring
