Loved, loved Trevard Lindley.

He was such a playmaker. Seems he was always making the timely interception, pass breakup, forcing/recovering a fumble, making a big tackle for loss.

I see a lot of Trevard's qualities in Westry.

Hopefully a bigger and more physical version.

Love the kids tenacity and will to win.

Need to see him manned up with a top rec force game then we'd know. We play a whole lot of zone right now but I think next year might let these guys man up a little more.

Some people might forget how good Trevard Lindley was. For 2 years, Lindley was the best corner in the SEC. Brooks would put Lindley on an island with the other team's best receiver every week, and Lindley would just shut them down week after week. Comparing any Kentucky corner to Lindley sounds premature, but Westry has looked very good so far.

it seemed like something happened to Trevard his senior season though, he didn't seem to be the lock down defender he was earlier. Didn't he struggle with a recurring ankle problem sr season?

Westry has a blank check waiting for him in a few years. He needs, and will put on, another 20 lbs of lean muscle. Then all he has to do is be willing to learn. He has all the tools, height and speed. The kid will be special, imo.

Westry did not have a good game last night, but when it mattered the most he made the play that UK usually does not make, and that is huge. He could have let his struggles get the better of him and got down on himself, but instead, he made the play that sealed the win for UK. His future is bright and it is going to be fun watching him grow as a player.

Westry possesses all the skills to be a lock-down corner, but I see him as being a good mix between ball-hawk and lock-down. Lindley was opportunistic, but was almost completely lock-down (unless you're LSU or Arkansas).

Time will tell, but under Stoops' tutelage, I don't doubt Westry can become All-SEC.

Edit: I'm trying to imagine Lindley under Stoops' coaching. All-American?

I think he can be as good as Trevard while in college, but Westry has a much, much higher ceiling. Trevard maxed out every ounce of his talent in college, with his size he just didn't have the future to be a lock down NFL corner. If Westry keeps developing at the clip he's going at and he continues to put in the work, his potential is limitless. I could see him being a lock down NFL corner.

I think Westry may have some flexibility in him as well. Lindley was pretty much a corner, but Westry shows some indication that he could play some safety as well. The NFL loves that kind of versatility.

Wait...What?
Player of the week says different. Remember he was playing against the best receiver in the league and had more than one good play that mattered. Remember he denied Cooper a touchdown that lead to SC settling for a field goal. That right there saved the game just as much as his INT. I think those plays alone merit a good night at the office for Westry.

Westry also had a sack in the first half.

Stoops himself said that Westry struggled and had a poor game. But I guess both he and I are wrong.

It was a great play at a most critical time, hope all of pass defenders learned a lesson from that play, and the Marty Moore play at the end of the bowl game (a loss), and the Micah Johnson play at the end of the bowl game (a win), the lesson... hey if you were a receiver you'd be on Offense, if you make a critically timed interception GO DOWN. (can't recall the players name at the end of S.Car. game LAST year but Josh Forrest should have gotten a game bowl for helping him to the ground!!!!

Not being critical of the kid, he did make some big plays but he also got beat pretty badly several times. Fortunately on at least 3 occasions the receiver either dropped the ball or the pass wasn't delivered where the receiver could get a hand on it.

You have to take the good with the bad. I doubt UK's corners from last year make the pass breakup on Cooper in the endzone that Westry knocked away. And who knows if they are even in position to make the interception much less catch it. Westry is making game saving plays in only his 2nd game as a true freshman, gaining experience and learning from his mistakes. I'll take it.

Westry didn't do anything to cost us the game and made big plays to help save the game. Coaches are always going to challenge kids like that to get better and will point to the mistakes before giving out the praise. So to the casual fan and most of the media, Westry had a good game.

Stoops himself said that Westry struggled and had a poor game. But I guess both he and I are wrong.

Westry blew two coverages that I saw. One on the first series of the game that would have been a big gain but Mitch missed a wide open TE. The second was late in the second half when he blew an assignment in a zone that resulted in a wide open 30 yard gain. THAT is what Stoops was referencing...nothing is going to erk a DB guru like Stoops more then not being assignment sound as a DB.

That said, while not perfect... the pick, the pass defended on Cooper in the end zone on a very well thrown ball and a sack were all key plays. Definitely room to grow but game changing plays even with the mistakes

Well said Pike, I also believe Stoops is going to judge his dbs tougher than any other group, Westry has a bright future under the watchful eye of CMS.

To satisfy some, he wasn't perfect on every single play. He clearly made some really big game changing plays and didn't give up any. So yes, some can say he wasn't perfect. But he was still pretty dang good on more plays than not.

Westry made a few good plays, but lets be honest....the QB threw the ball right into his chest lol. It wasn't a "go up and get it over a receiver" type of interception. He did what he should have done and then came close to screwing it up with the fumble. The kid is good for a freshmen, but comparing him to Lindley....come on now.
