Western Kentucky at Kentucky

Prediction?

Pain.

j.k. I think UK should win this game. I think UK hitters should be able to put up plenty of runs against Hilltopper pitching. Marsh needs to keep the ball down and keep the WKU hitters from getting balls into the gaps.

Agree. Can't let Marsh have a bad outing but also hopefully our defense doesn't let him down.

I think we will score a few today.

I think 10-5 Cats.

Marsh is a Jekyll and Hyde pitcher. In almost every game he has moments where he looks dominant, only to come out the next inning and be staring at a really big crooked number. TCU he got 5 quick outs before giving up a 5 spot with 2 outs in the bottom of the second. Against Appy State he went two strong innings before giving up 3.

So, the key will be for UK to try to get their damage done before that big inning happens.

Second hitter, first double of the game for WKU. This one with one out down the left field line.

Pain.

The ball is currently sitting belt high........

Marsh got away with one on the three hole hitter. Left it middle middle and the Hilltopper was too far in front of it and fouled it off over the berm in right. Big battle on this at bat as it goes to a full count and the WKU hitter just keeps fouling off pitches and he ends up drawing a walk.

Double play gets UK out of the inning! 5-4-3!

Going to review it at second... not sure what they are looking at with this one. Maybe Lewis' foot goes off the bag.

Lewis pulls his foot off the bag early. I think that they could overturn this one. It is close, but I think if you go by the rule 100 percent and don't give the halo rule that he is safe.

They call him out. That, to be honest, is a bad call, but they gave Lewis a bit of play on that one. If that is at first it is a safe call.

Marsh started out with a strike out, followed by a double, then a ground into a double play. It is nice to see us turning more double plays. Seems like we have settled into our infield and they are more comfortable and are turning the double plays. Marsh was getting ahead nicely on the batters but his enticement pitches were too far outside that the batters didn't have to decide. The double pitch was up and over the middle of the plate.

Shelby sends one right back up the middle that is a turf burner a the pitcher's feet. Starting it off with a single. This pitcher has a 9.00 ERA and is named Aristotle.

Gabriel sounds like he's enjoying a cough drop on our broadcast, so that is nice.

Rhodes tattoos one, but it is right at the centerfielder. Good at bat, but just not the right place.

Shelby advances on a balk. Pitcher didn't pause.

Collett watches one go by for strike three. Inside corner under the hands. Great pitch, probably not much he could have done with it had he swung.

Shelby at second is really messing with the pitcher and his timing.

Shelby takes the first pitch right back through the pitcher. Rhodes lines out to center. Gabriel says Schultz is sick. Collett strikes out looking and Anu does the same. We really like to look at called 3rd strikes with runners in scoring position.

Marsh strikes out one, gets a ground out, and then an infield fly. Seems to be settling in nicely.

Kessler's struggle at the plate continues, 1st pitch ground out to first. Golda struck out looking. Lewis lines a nice single over the 2nd baseman. Then Lewis gets caught stealing (by a lot).

I love Kessler, super nice guy. But I think its time he sets for a game or two. He is killing us. Especially in the #5 hole. But, as a I said in another post, Im not sure what youre other options are.

Marsh gives up a very deep fly to left. I was looking away and don't know if it was a mistake pitch. He got another fly out and then struck out the last batter. Doing OK against a fairly good WKU offense.

Agree. Have to at least move him down.

Mistake pitch the kid was sitting on, but the hitter was a freshman weighing 150 so it just made the warning track.

Estep grounds deep to the right of the short stop who has no chance to make the throw. Breydon Daniel draws a walk. Two on and no outs. Shelby flies out to right but can't advance the runners. Rhodes singles past third to score Estep. Collett strikes out and Rhodes wandered too far from first base and gets picked off in a run down to end the inning. An offensive error to end the inning, leaving another runner in scoring position.

We did score a run so 1-0 Cats.

Marsh gives up a double on a mistake pitch. Then gives up a HR with another pitch belt high. Now 1-2 WKU. Got another fly out, then a single ending the inning on a strike out. If he gets the pitch up, they are punishing him.

I hate watching us try to sac bunt in the 4th inning to hurt a shot at a big inning. And can we please stop having a pitcher coach first base? A runner should never get picked at first with a runner at 2nd and a left-handed hitter at the plate.

4th inning: Anu leads off with a single. Kessler walks. Golda out trying to bunt on all three strikes. Lewis HBP to load the bases with one out. Estep gets a sac fly to advance all the runners. Breydon Daniel gets a two run single. Not even close on Zeke Lewis thanks to that speed. WKU takes down the starter here in the bottom fo the 4th. 4-2 Cats.

Shelby struck out swinging to end the 4th after a WP that advanced Daniel.

Marsh induces a deep fly out, a strike out, and a ground out that Lewis ranges to field deep and make a new throw to get the final out. He is working fast and this inning was effective.

Rhodes flies out deep. Collett grounds out. Anu singles to center. Kessler gets to end the inning with a fly out to left. Is he ever going to get on track?

Marsh in the 6th: called strike out, ground out to first, single up the middle on a pretty good pitch, and a check swing to first where Collett fields up the line and waits for the runner. I have to check out for a free meal so I hope to catch it after I get done listening to some spiel from someone pushing pain management.

It's silly that they aren't moving him around the lineup hoping to get him to see some better pitches.

Really like the way our bats have been going overall the last week or so.

Nice RBI there by Braden. 5-2 Cayts!

Another game with an error. We are now nearly 20 error free games away from meeting Mingione's SEC competitive fielding percentage of 980.
