First, Dawson and Stoops to the entire rest of the staff and team.
Second, the OLine to our QB and our defense.
And third, our Wide Receivers to Towles and the defense.
Our offense has the potential to be absolutely stout. Running up the gut, getting ourselves in second and third and long situations. What the actual hell goes through our coordinators' minds? Regardless of being new to the league, you just don't try to establish the run game if they are eating you alive. Play calling was despicable IMO. Slants, comeback routes, crossing routes. ESTABLISH THE INTERMEDIATE GAME. Third straight game where I've not seen our Tight End get a dedicated sniff of anything outside of a blocking scheme. Dawson said when we hired him that if you don't get the ball to your playmakers in space, then it's your fault for losing. Dawson has to take responsibility for this one.
Second, the OLine allowed six sacks. I had flashbacks to Stoops' first year where Smith and Whitlow were running for their lives and getting demolished every other play. Don't you dare complain about Towles holding onto the ball for too long when he had a Gator running past a lineman untouched about to eat his lunch more often than not. The line never gave Towles a chance until a few miracles late. Would you rather Towles throw it away for three downs or try to do something with what he's given? Oline allowing such domination spat in the face of our defense. We showed a lot of heart on defense.
Also, we dropped two touchdowns. Wideouts just did not come to play. Baker dropped several huge passes. The receivers made Towles look worse than he actually was. The biggest strength on the team came up short when we needed them most even though they showed flashes of greatness.
Overall, we did not come out to play. We were tight, scared, and missed out on the biggest play of the Mark Stoops era early with that Baker drop.
We will not beat Florida until we have a team that expects to win. Not just hopes to win or plays to not make a mistake. If the UK offense plays to half of their potential, we win this game.
Props to the defense for almost saving this team's arse. They played a damn good game even though Will Grier decided he was going to figure out how to football and give us a game.
I suspect Stoops doesn't try to tell the team about the streak next year. Just have the team believe that we are going into just another ballgame.
We're going to lick our wounds and get ready for another next week. We played our worst game of the season and narrowly missed an upset. We will prepare for Mizzou and see where we go from there. Hopefully we come out swinging.
Sleep it off, folks.
Mashup Question: Which unit on defense impressed you the most?
Good night. Have a nice Sunday.
