Rybka still listed as second on depth chart while Horsey is removed. So even though he logged no snaps week one I guess it was injury or a silent suspension? He is listed as an OR with Henry-Young which I'll take a proof that coaches consider him to be a potential contributor in prime-time as well. Listed over Dinkins as well.

Maybe a similar story with Jordan Robinson at corner? No snaps in week one I believe but still listed as #2 behind Phillips this week.

Really hope we get to see what guys like Rodriguez and Bowles can do on the interior line against EKU. Hope we can see some depth there.

I totally get why McClain is considered our second back RIGHT NOW, but I hope the EKU and Akron games show us that Ramon or Demie are coming for that spot. Call me a hater but I still haven't seen a single good run from Jutahn that wasn't on a 3rd and 15 for meaningless yards in all these years. A passing situation guy? Sure. But I want someone else to be the guy who spells Ray Davis. Hopefully Ramon can get back to his old self or we cross our fingers that Wilcox is ready sooner rather than later to be a backup.

RB room is a hard one for UK to have (2 or 3) 4* guys.. Would love to see a high power back, quick back and great 3rd option. RB, LB, OLine and DLine are the hardest to stay healthy during a 12 game season. We have DLINE depth for sure, LB and RB are thin as well now the OLINE (3oline injured (2 for the year)).

It is what it is at this point and UK might have to get creative if we have injuries to specific guys.

Hope Horsey is back for Vandy game (healthy) and knocking the rust off for Florida.

I agree about McClain. No idea what the coaches see in him. He must be a GREAT runner in practice because his game play has been horrific.
His first carry he literally almost ended up with his head up Jagers Ass. Lol. Ran full speed into the centers ass then tried to put the brakes on. Slid right into a shit sandwich. Pretty sure he had some poop on his nose.

The offense needs to be on the field. we have 2 games to get reps for the first and second units. What Bowles and Rodriguez can do against EKU doesn't matter all that much(what they can do vs Vandy and UF is the question)

Some of the players cross train at several positions. For example, Dylan Ray was listed as the backup LT and Paul Rodriguez as the backup LG. But when Horsey got hurt, Ray entered as the new LG. Right now, I think JQ Hardaway is seeing action as the backup at both CB positions.

Rybka's lack of playing time is curious. Oxendine has been seeing action at DE, and Khalil Saunders has seen some action at DT, playing behind Walker. Rybka is our most experienced returning DE. Perhaps he has simply lost playing time to others in practice. Perhaps Rybka is the odd man out with Brad White using both Walker and Oxendine in the same lineup. Or maybe Rybka isn't 100% physically, but I haven't heard anything addressing that.

As for McClain, our coaches know what they are doing. Ramon Jefferson is coming back from an ACL tear and hasn't gotten a carry yet, although he threw a nice block on Barion Brown's kickoff return. LaVell Wright is out for the season with an injury. DSK has been used so far as a pass receiver. Jamarion Wilcox was nursing an pulled hamstring in the preseason. Some posters here are very critical of McClain but I just don't see it. McClain has steadily improved in all phases of his game. I have no doubt Jefferson will get his share of carries. Wilcox is probably a RS candidate although that can change with one injury.

Saw Rybka Sat on the sidelines but not in uniform. Guess he's dinged.

I remember Eddie Gran had high praise for McClain back when he was a freshman. I kept waiting to see it but it hasn't materialized.

Jutahn McClain is averaging 4.5 yards/carry as a UK Wildcat. He is a good receiver, a good blocker, and hasn't been a fumbler. What's the problem?

I guess it's probably unfair bias on my part. I expected a future Benny Snell or Chris Rodriguez when Eddie Gran was talking him up. No reason to doubt Eddie Gran at that time. The guy had a great track record with developing backs.

Of course. Benny Snell ranks #1 in UK history in rushing yards and CRod ranks #3. We can't hold every new RB to that standard. Jutahn McClain is a good football player, but he isn't a starter. McClain turned down offers from MI, PA St, and ND to come here. And Eddie Gran didn't develop him. Not every player can be all-SEC and not every coach can be voted into the hall of fame. Yet, we have our best football program since Bear Bryant was here, and that alone is remarkable. I would just like to see our fan base appreciate how our roster is constructed, be happy about winning, and acknowledge the great work put in by our players, coaches, and athletics department. That would constitute progress and enlightenment.

Hey I am not hammering the guy. Like I said, I guess my expectations were a little too much. You are right he isn't Benny Snell nor Chris Rodriguez but I do remember Gran building him up. I do appreciate where this program is and can become. I remember listening to the beatdowns in my car during the Bill Curry days. I do appreciate Stoops and the team. Jeez!

He has been right around 50 percent on his success rate every year. That being 2 yards and under is failure and 3 yards and over is success. Thats not good.

I hate to be nosy, but are you the same Persian Cat that a couple decades ago uses to sneak into closed practices and give us great reports on what was going on? That guy should have had a full plate, he was studying to be a Doctor IIRC.

Glad you remember! That is me, haha. I had a change of heart during my "gap year" in Japan right after undergrad, stayed there for a few years (I even called in to KSR a few times back then from Japan) and then came back and worked for several Japanese businesses across the US for the past decade. As luck would have it, I eventually met my future wife (who is Japanese but moved to the states) on a visit to my parents back in Lexington, got married five years ago and have been back in Lex for several years now. Haven't posted for a long time but I have been here following the discussions since the 2000s. This year's team just has me so darn excited I decided to start participating again. I usually make it out to 1-2 games a year.

Man back in the old days it was a different era, much easier to sneak into things likes summer workouts, and the spring practices didn't even require sneaking in, they were just all open to the public/students. But when you went, it was just a few reporters and a handful of fans like me.

I recall this poster from bygone days, glad you're back posting. Always added great info to this site.

I remember you also from back then.. Always wondered what had happened to you...Glad you are back on here...

Jutahn is a good player just a bad fit. He's an inside zone/gap scheme guy. Also we have high degree of tendency when he comes in to run pin/pull and give him immediate carries.

Coen is hopefully/probably setting up some counters on those tendencies, which he often does. It's one thing that makes him so good. However for straight substitution, I like demi much better
