Week 1 Rookie Ladder: KAT #4

Slap in the face to Karl. I could easily see him winning rookie of the year. Okafor has mutiple bigs to compete against in Philly.

If I was the number one draft pick and some clown picked me to be the 4th best rookie this season I'd take it as a slap in the face, but thats just me..

I get tickled at the butt hurt on this board when someone dares to say something UK affiliated isn't the very best.

Doesn't mean he thinks KAT won't be great just that 3 others may be stepping into better situations while also being damn good players.

If Okafor was a better player he would have been drafted 1st not 3rd. Hes also going to have compete against Noel and Embiid(if healthy) for minutes. Karl is stepping into a better situation IMO. what other bigs do they have? Dieng? thats about it

If Okafor wants to win it, he'll have to play MUCH better than he did in SL + PS. He shot 38.6 FG% (22/57) and only drew 9 free throw attempts through both periods. He also had and absolutely abysmal 4 assists vs 18 turnovers. The injury and poor conditioning isn't going to help that.
Towns on the other hand, has seemingly been the best player in the SL + PS in all respects, and the only one who would have an argument otherwise is Emmanual Mudiay, but even then, he turned the ball over roughly 4.5 times per game.

Many (myself included) believed that Okafor had the most ready-made skills to do well in the NBA early and throughout, with KAT having the much, much higher ceiling, and Okafor has struggled tremendously since he's taken the floor. Just been a wildly inefficient player.

Kind of odd how Randle can't be in the talks of ROY. Not that i think he should be in the running as it's his second year, but back in the day didn't Blake Griffth win it after getting hurt in the preseason? Randle got hurt in his first game. I don't see how theres much difference in the situations. I think Kat wins ROY. He's the best player from the draft and will be ready from day 1. Okafor is going to be pretty good as well, but Noel is going to be more of a threat this year and the starting job won't be handed to him.

I see where they're coming from. That was the whole question in the Towns vs Okafor debate. Karl is the better long term prospect; higher ceiling whereas Okafor was the polished, ready NBA player. And yeah it's kinda retarded that Randle played less than one game and can't be in the ROY talks but Griffin could.

Blake Griffin never played in a regular season game his first year under contract. So his rookie year was his second year under contract.

I do agree it's crazy Randle isn't eligible since he played one game.

I assume you guys know that Randle, Towns (Prince to), and Russell are all playing right now in the Timberwolves-Lakers game. Pretty cool that 3 of the 10 starters were ex-UK players.

Okafor with 26 and 7 on 10/16 shooting.

I've never understood why a Duke fan would post here all these years. I get the newcomers after their title, but you've been a mainstay. Do what makes you happy, that just always confused me.

Well I'm a Kentucky fan, so that would explain why I am a mainstay. Don't know what I did that would identify me as a Duke fan.

Lakers are going to regret not taking Okafor...Russell may be good for the Lakers but he won't be as good a player as Towns (no shot at drafting him sadly) or Okafor IMO.

Didn't Okafor turn it over 8 times tonight? That's usually pretty significant.

Unfortunately, as a Laker fan I agree with you. I think Russell will be ok but never top 3 PG in the league elite. And that's what you're hoping to get when you're drafting second. I think Mudiay will be better.

KAT has as damn good'a chance as anybody. But man. You'd think here in a year or 2 the dat gum T-Wolves would end up being an elite team. With Towns, Wiggins, Shabazz, LeVine, Rubio, and hell maybe Tyus Jones can be a good backup for em when its said and done.

Yeah, so blah last night. Randle looked good though overall. Kobe was Kobe...highly inefficient and volume shooter.

Worth repeating, since some usually miss the word “Rookie” in “Rookie Ladder”: The idea is to chart the season, not predict the best career.

Also, I don’t anticipate changes next week, barring something dramatic/major injury. I’ll wait for a body of work more than 3 games.
