Got the chance to watch 50 or so minutes of practice today, as a portion was open to the media. We couldn't scramble to get a photographer there on such short notice, but I'll give you some impressions of what I saw.

-Patrick Towles was running first team QB today and threw it pretty well. Fit a couple of throws into tight windows down field, but he did miss on some check downs late in the open portion.

-Drew Barker, of course, was with the second team, but he also threw well. He found Jeff Badet splitting two DBs on a perfectly placed ball. Barker did throw the only interception of the open portion, though, underthrowing a receiver and allowing Cody Quinn to jump the pass.

-Speaking of Jeff Badet -- wow, he's fast. On the aforementioned play, he left JD Harmon and a safety (never did catch the number) in his dust. On another play later during the team session, he blazed down the sideline, but the pass was a touch overthrown. He really has the ability to stretch a defense, which should help Kentucky immensely next season if he stays healthy. And Alex Montgomery is a big dude. Almost looked like a tight end today, but still showed off some great footwork in route running.

-Blake Bone looks to have bulked up in the offseason. He's added a fair amount of muscle in his upper body. Dorian Baker and Ryan Timmons spent most of their time on stationary bike -- they're still recovering from surgeries. Thaddeus Snodgrass made a few good catches. T.V. Williams absolutely shook Blake McClain out of his shorts on a route up the middle during 7-on-7.

-Saw a lot of C.J. Conrad on first team offense today. Spent some time in the backfield at fullback.

-George Asafo-Adjei is every bit the physical specimen the coaches have made him out to be. He was playing some right tackle today. Zach West was in a no-contact jersey and didn't seem to be participating much.

-Farrington Huguenin was running with the ones at DE. C.J. Johnson and Melvin Lewis were at the tackle spots. Matt Elam came on with the second team. It looks like he may have put some of his weight back on.

-A.J. Stamps and Marcus McWilson were the starting safeties. Blake McClain came on with the second team. Kendall Randolph spent some time at corner today. Fred Tiller was wearing a no-contact jersey and no shoulder pads. Only caught glimpses of Darius West and Mike Edwards.

-Josh Forrest and Ryan Flannigan were first teamers today, along with Jason Hatcher and Denzil Ware on the edges. I thought Hatcher looked particularly stronger than he did the last time we saw him.

That's all for now. Transcripts of D.J. Eliot and new outside LB coach Andy Buh coming up soon.
