Weak spot

In my opinion, Kentucky will not reach more than 7 wins unless they are able to fill the two offensive tackle spots. Iowa had a field day rushing Levi’s.
Goodwin better be ready and really good really early. Most have forgotten how abysmal our Tackle play was against Iowa in the bowl game.

With Dare out, we had nobody, and I mean NOBODY at Tackle that could pass protect for Levis.

Could be a very long year for OL and Levis. Actually, Levis likely won't be able to stay healthy all year if Stoops can't get the OT position figured out.

In time, we will see if you are correct. The Citrus Bowl has almost nothing to do with our 2022 Oline. Coen had about a month to adapt to Rosenthal's and Watkins' absences from the Citrus Bowl. Now Coen and Wolford are gone. Sangarello and Yenser are building our 2022 offense. They have spring practice and the entire offseason to do it with a bunch of new players.

Kiyaunta Goodwin was not available for the Citrus Bowl, and Deondre Buford was not ready. Our Oline for the Citrus Bowl was stop gap. Iowa's Dend Zach Vanvalkenburg was All Big 10 and one of the most dangerous pass rushers in the country. Vanvalkenburg made a lot of Olines look bad, and I think he was the reason Stoops moved Horsey outside as a stopgap rather than throwing Buford to the wolves without previous playing experience. It was the best of a bunch of bad choices.

Replacing departed players is something coaches face every year. If Stoops shared your conclusion, he would have brought in a tackle from the portal. I have confidence in Goodwin, Buford, Jeremy Flax, and David Wohlabaugh to be effective SEC players with more experience. You may not agree, but it will take time to learn which of us is right.

BTW, I attended the Citrus Bowl. Did you?

Stoops DID TRY to bring in the OT from Vandy.
His old buddy The Wolf stabbed him in the back........again......and got him to go to Bama instead of UK.

Much more worried about corner than tackles.

We've recruited the hell out of O line last few yrs, lots of highly ranked guys on our roster, I feel a better coach is in place for them. And a smart OC who will give the LT position help if needed with chips from rb and TE extras.

All my concerns for 2022 are on defense. Fully expect UK offense in 2022 to be one of the elite in all CFB.

I agree that Stoops would've taken the Vandy OT.

However, some things have changed since the bowl game.
1) Guys who entered the latter part of the season and even approaching the bowl game had not been practicing/preparing as if they had to be the man. With Kinnard and Rosenthal gone, that appears to have lit a fire under Flax & Buford. Flax showed up to spring camp having lost a huge amount of weight (down from 350+ to about 325, IIRC), so that isn't just lip service as he had to be busting his butt.
2) Younger guys will be less young - Wohlabaugh got some experience last experience in 2021 as a true freshman, and coaches have been impressed with him since fall camp. However, he wasn't ready to play a ton of snaps in the bowl game. He should be much more prepared for the 2022 season. RS-SO Joshua Jones has also now had another season to develop, so he may be able to provide some depth as well.
3) Kiyaunta Goodwin will also be available this fall. Even though he will still be learning, he may be able to provide some depth as well.

So, even without an addition from the portal, there are a few guys (and most of those will be eligible to return in 2023)...

LT: RS-SO Buford, TR-FR Goodwin,
LG: RS-SR Horsey, RS-FR Burton
OC: JR Cox, RS-SR Wilson, RS-SO John Young (I think I read he got some snaps here during spring practice)
RG: RS-SR Manning, RS-FR Rodriguez, TR-FR Bingham
RT: RS-JR Flax, RS-FR Wohlabaugh, RS-SO Josh Jones, TR-FR Hall

Would assume Wilson will be the backup center and a second string guard.

The offensive tackles will need game reps, but you just hope they improve as the season progresses. The opening week vs Miami the offense will be vanilla and you hope it helps bleed them. The next week I assume a media storyline will be UK stopping Florida's pass rush from getting to Levis since it could prove decisive. Given the vanilla offense the week prior, this would be when Scangarello includes some new plays that scheme around Florida's pass rush. Luckily they play the three easiest teams in September and hopefully come out 3-1 at least.

The offensive tackles are a worry. These are my others:

1. DBs
2. Pass rush minus Weaver
3. CRod not playing
4. Offensive playmakers if CRod can't go. I hope the WRs and TEs do well, but I think Wandale was special and I don't feel I can assume transfers and freshmen have a breakout year once again. Still waiting on a TE to make a consistent difference since Tamme.

I feel like everything's we saw someone get burnt on the line, it was Ware on the left side. Felt like I cussed him all season

Based on what we saw in the spring OT will not be our weakness, corner will be. Our tackles looked excellent in the spring. Even if they don't maintain that level in the fall they still look to be no worse than above average. Corner on the other hand was a mess in the spring. We look to have no more than 2 corners that you would want to play against SEC caliber receivers and even those two looked very rough.

Yes we def recruited the vandy LT. I've been listening to Bud Elliott Cover 3 Summer school analyst podcasts of all teams the last few weeks. Guess what, virtually every team's expert across the nation was saying "we are definitely looking at o linemen in the portal this offseason, esp tackles...".

The vandy kid was a multi yr SEC starter. When he didn't come notice we didn't pivot to chasing anyone else. Tells me who we've got is better than what was available.

You can blame last year’s offensive line coach for lack of development and playing experience he played 5 guys all season not like John who played 9 players every game

Not arguing either side of the coin but I would be cause evaluating the Tackles from the Spring. They kept the Defense intentionally Vanilla to let the Offense get their feet under them. Young Tackles get confused with movement and overloads, I don't doubt any of their athletic ability but rather their lack of reps.

You've made posts about getting threads off track, patted your other account on the back for calling it out and called out attacking other posters. Seems odd for you to turn around and do what you gripe about.
Calling BS. If you have a gripe about getting threads off track, why post a dishonest hit on me? I have no other accounts. Do you? Since Barry Blue (not you) criticized our Oline's performance in the Citrus Bowl, it was fair to ask if he was actually there to see it. I was, and that is relevant to the comment. If you want to fight, go to the BB board. That is about all they do over there.

That is not quite my understanding of the situation. This is from material on another website (not KSR) that has been mostly accurate about the roster. Our coaches looked at Steen and offered him a scholarship because he was the best transfer Otackle that returned their interest. But our coaches were honest with him, and could not guarantee he would beat out Flax and our Ltackles. Their impression of his Vandy film was that he was sound but nothing special. As you say, he chose Bama. He will not be a starter at Bama, and he probably would not have been a starter at Kentucky past September if at all. Free will.

I see your one cup of BS, and I'll raise you two cups of BS. If you don't see a game in person, you're no longer allowed to post an opinion of here about that game. What kind of Malarky is that?

I thought you were concerned about getting threads off track. Or not. Which is it?

I attend games in person and I watch games on the television. No doubt at all in my mind, attending a game allows me to zero in on a player or an area of the team and see it more clearly for what it is. If you don't agree, you have that right. But I did not say people can't post if they don't attend, just that attending gives more information. I totally believe that.

You are agitated and throwing bombs, unprovoked. I did not ask for this. Are you Barry Blue?

Yep, I’m Barry Blue as much as you are Rembrandt, SEC Country, Colonial Farm 80, and Spect Imaging.

Not at all concerned if it gets off track, I try most of the time to not get it off track, I know it bothers some. I like to shoot the breeze, so it doesn’t concern me much.

I agree about seeing different areas of the field when watching live vs. TV. However, it doesn’t invalidate the original post, wether they witnessed live or not.

Okay. You attacked me for taking the thread off track. But now you are not at all concerned if it gets off track. Interesting.

This business of accusing posters of secretly being other posters is not new. It is a clever, cynical thing to do, because it is just like asking someone why he beats his wife. No matter how he replies, the thought that he beats his wife has been planted whether he really does or not. Many posters have been accused of having multiple accounts. It comes up in these kinds of angry posts, like a last resort. I have not lived in Lexington in a long time and no longer know anyone who posts opinions here. But even if I did, that would not invalidate my opinion. If you do not like my opinion, that is fine. I only know what I see.

You are a bomb thrower.

That line was cobbled together with guards and Flax playing tackle despite few snaps there all year. We will be fine, though not elite like we have been, though our IOL will be elite.

That is a reasonable point of view that might turn out right. But I still have some hopes for our Otackles. Flax has lost 25#, and Goodwin is a brute. Buford was well liked when we signed him. With some experience, they could overachieve.

Until I see our relievers catch some balls in SEC competition I would call that a huge question mark. I also need to see our new O Coordinator call a big game before I remove the question mark on him. I'm not sure people really appreciate what a huge transition that could be. He might be great right out of the gate, there also may be a learning curve there, we just don't know
