If we have the highest NIL budget in the country by a couple of Million Dollars.
We don’t care about having a roster full of NBA draft picks and a top 10 recruiting class every year. We had that with cal and that got us no where these last 5 years.
I keep seeing everyone talk about his recruiting.
This is NIL/transfer portal era.
Players in 2024 dont care about the stuff that used to matter ( how big your arena is, or how nice the practice facility is, etc.)
They care about securing the bag.
If we have the highest budget we can just buy the players we want that will fit Popes system.
Also I don’t see anyone saying that Pope loss players because he got outcoached. As a matter of fact he won games last season and beat teams that he had no business beating based on the talent level of his roster at BYU.
He will assuredly have a better roster at UK (maybe not in year 1 because of the timing) than he could put together at BYU.
I say we give him 2 years and see what happens.
It’s not like we have a choice anyway.
Also, I was just as pissed as everyone else yday. But after sleeping on it I’m optimistic that he can surprise everyone and make a believer out of all of us.
