We could be #6 on Monday

We aren’t the #8 team in the country and certainly not #6......and if the O line and Defense play like tonight, they'll be leaving Oxford with a big fat L. Roman Harper was definitely tight, this offensive line is SOFT....let me rephrase that.......right now they are offensive, as in horrible

I'll take it but it's absurd, we'd be overrated. This team has to fix some serious OL issues and establish the run (said for the umpteenth time)

Unfortunately ... me thinks you be correct.

Yet we win. Not always pretty but we win.

Welll. USC is winning now. So they will move up. OK will fall. We will be Number 7.
We very well may be ranked #7 ... honestly, it will mean nothing for me b/c I don't see UK as being that good. If the argument is "somebody has to be ranked #7 or #8" ... OK, so be it. Everyone that can milk it for whatever it's worth to them will do just that. I just don't see UK as a legitimate top 10 team and hoping they improve and play better with more consistency. They have impressive talent in spots, but all eleven have to play together at a high level to maintain a top 10 ranking. The only thing good about tonight is that it can be used as a teaching moment, and we won by 8 bigguns (shout-out to John Short).

Agreed ... and because I very much like to win, I was reminded tonight that I should NOT grow too accustomed to the idea b/c better teams than NIU are up next, and our coaches have a lot of "fixin" to do in a short period of time. Hoping tonight was a fluke and they played "down" to the competition. Sounds like the musings of a "sucker" but I'll go with it for now and hope for a better day on Saturday.

I’m not sure the O line issues are fixable. These are our best five offensive lineman and they’re not good to say the least. If Goodwin was ready we could move Horsey to LG and bench Burton, or maybe move Horsey to RT and bench Flax.

Hate to break it to you. UK is a legitimate Top 10 team.

Well ... here's hoping that you're right. I know it's fun to believe it, but you can't claim it "legitimately" after the inconsistent line play. We need to get a lot better in the trenches for any reasonable person to "believe" UK is Top Ten. Once that happens, I'll be right there with you but not tonight.

I don’t have to “believe”. I see the polls and they have UK ranked in the Top 10.

Also, are you saying every coach and media members who vote in the polls are “unreasonable”?

UGA struggled against Kent St today. I will lay money on the fact that Miami of OH and NIU would both beat Kent St by 2 scores and since Kent St is in the MAC it will probably happen.

The win was ugly tonight. No question. But we won and are 4-0 and Top 10 and I honestly can’t understand fans who don’t enjoy that fact and try to fight it. Makes zero sense to me. Enjoy the ride….it’s not often we are ranked in the Top 10.

What the smart pollsters will realize is that UK is 4-0 with a win in Gainesville while the Cats have been without their 2nd most important player all season who is back next weekend.
Indeed ... very true. I hope the OLine can give CRod just a little daylight to let him formally introduce himself to the Ole Miss linebackers and secondary.

For some reason, in football, we have a standard applied to us no one else has. I guess Tennessee is just so much better than us even though we beat Florida by 10 on the road, and it should have been more, and Tennessee barely beats them at home by 5, and Florida gave a point away on this stupid analytics crap.

But that doesn’t matter. They have to be better, obviously.

We’re sitting at 4-0 with a road win against a traditional power and some good small conference teams. This NIU team won 9 games last year, but that doesn’t matter. It would only matter if we were a traditional SEC power I guess.

Several teams in the top 10 have weaknesses. Arkansas has some holes, USC does, and that’s not all. But it doesn’t matter, they’re “other teams” so they’re better too. Just by nature.

Yes our O-line has some issues, but we were never going to be an NFL roster. College teams, unless you’re a handful or less of them, have holes people. What were you expecting?

Give it some time. If we beat Ole Miss (another team with holes lol) we can control much of our own destiny from there out. If we lose, well it’s a ranked SEC opponent on the road. This is the problem with several of you talking college football playoff. There’s no need in going there unless we’re a few games out.

Rankings do not matter. Keep winning and it will all work out.
They absolutely do matter. We’ve been fighting and clawing for YEARS just to get a crumb of respect. Now we are sitting in the top 10 and our idiot fans keep saying rankings don’t matter. How can you be a UK fan and say ranking don’t matter? It’s puzzling.

Be freaking proud of this!!!!!! It doesn’t happen to us but yet it is happening right now. Don’t take it for granted.

oh and the “keep winning and it will work out” line……well that’s all well and good if your team can go undefeated. Ours likely can’t. We need to be ranked as high as we possibly can. I hope everyone ahead of us loses. I don’t care if we deserve to be ranked high. All ranked teams fall a bit when they lose. I want some cushion in the polls in case we drop a few games. It is a major step forward if we can remain ranked through an entire season. When did that last happen?

Polls just give the fans something to talk about and the pundits something to argue about on network TV. They don't mean much at the end of the day. Based on what we've seen this year both offensive and defensive lines have a lot of work to do. That's where the game is won and lost and that's not our strong suit and the running game has suffered. A good back will still need an OLine to block. CRod will help but will not by himself be enough to overcome the OLine problems. This program is still developing and I'm glad they won but I not going to act like we've arrived at a legitimate Top Ten status. I will enjoy it while lasts but after tonight, it's clear there are still issues with talent, depth or maybe mindset along the Offensive and Defensive lines. I'll be interested to see how they play in Oxford, and I will be excited to have CRod back.

To answer your question, the 1950 season is the only time in UK history that they were ranked from start to finish.

After decades of no respect and finding ways to lose I'll enjoy 4-0 and being in the Top 10. I know there are issues, but I'll let the coaches and team worry about all that. In the past I would worry and fret about how we played, but not so much anymore. There are some very good points about getting a bit older.

Naysayers do this every year in both football and basketball.

They talk down a team and say there is no way they deserve to be ranked “X” and state all their weaknesses.

What they are failing to process is that every team has weaknesses.

The requirements to be ranked #7 do not involve the offensive line’s ability to block, the DBs’ ability to get interceptions, etc.

Voters are ranking teams based upon year to date performance relative to other teams.

Kentucky is in the top 10 because a bunch of teams that looked like they should have been top 10 have lost games, and Kentucky is undefeated and looked impressive in the swamp.

It is that simple.

They absolutely do matter.

Yep.

Top 25 teams automatically get more attention. Each week, the media discusses every top 25 team. Why they won. Why they lost. What they need to do to win next week.

It is free advertising for the program.

Stoops and Company have worked hard to reach this point.

Our supposed fans sound foolish saying they don’t deserve it.

Those wanting to tear down this team, say we don't deserve our ranking, that we are a disappointment....watch more damn football.

Outside of Georgia, Bama, Ohio - everyone else has some extreme flaws. Probably not 2 or 3 pts diff of all teams ranked from 4 to 20. We got issues to iron out, so does most everyone else. Unlike them, we are getting back our 2nd best offensive talent, fresh for rest of the yr, not been out due to injuries.

Very very excited for the next 2/3rds of the season

UT doesn't move above us though. Their win at home was less impressive than us beating UF at UF.
When evaluating the 30 teams that will be whittled down to the top 25, I don’t think a majority of the voters will do a previous weeks’ game by game comparison for the several dozen teams who are serious T25 contenders

-Head to head?—yes
-Who beat whom and by how many points? Not likely at this point in the season.

More likely—some will say: “UK and UT are undefeated….who is generally looking like the most complete team NOW?”

Some will say - UK was ranked ahead and won….and keep us above UT.

Others may say - UKs line play is a fatal flaw and give the Vols the bump.

All for naught as we play UT head to head later in the year.

GBB!
