They are reporting he is so out of shape he has to pull himself out of game after one trip up and down court.

While this is bad for the present hopefully wcs will learn how to be a pro and the work ethic it takes to stay competitive.

No one to blame but himself but you would think he would have been told how important it is to get to first camp in shape.

Sickle-cell, plus the media whirlwind around being such a marketable, quotable rookie, plus him putting those other obligations ahead of on the court stuff all probably a factor.

Also gotta remember what that organization and coaching staff are like. Lot of layers beyond just Willie not putting in the work.

I see a lot of excuses, excuses, excuses. It's call being a pro and being mature. Things like this is why I questioned WCS dedication to the game of basketball. I know he's a fan favorite but the kid lacks maturity. Bottom line, NBA doesn't buy excuses.

I'd take it all with a grain of salt. Who knows what the truth is, hard to imagine someone like him who is freak athlete could fall that far off, those quick

That's all a bunch of crap, no offense.

Time to put on your big boy pants, Willie, and grow up.

Exactly. This is the NBA. You work your entire life to get to this point. I'm hoping the best for WCS and always loved watching him play, but this doesn't do a ton to help the rumors that he never "loved" basketball. We even heard rumblings around draft time that some teams had concerns that he might be one of those guys that cares more about his brand and other things over basketball. That's fine, but it's not necessarily what you want if you draft a guy with such a high pick.

Did you run this through some sort of automatic excuse-generating app to see how many excuses could be put in a four line post?

And how exactly would Willie arriving out of shape be the fault of "that organization and the coaching staff"?

If true, just ridiculous. WCS is not good enough to pull this kind of crap. Maybe it's not true, so I'm withholding judgement. But at the same time, I'm just keeping it real.

I'll reserve my opinion until there is proof that this is more than just some silly rumor.

Willie has too many negative influences around him just from what I know. He thinks he has already made it. The vets are working hard to perfect their craft, I'm talking guys that have been in the league for years, while Willie is at the club with his "homies" poppin' bottles. He'll either learn to drop the hangers-on and get better people around him or he will wash out quickly.

Never been a fan of WCS, can't say this news is very surprising to hear.

GTFO with that crap.

The guy has been nothing but great for Kentucky, he was an All-American, helped us get to 2 Final Fours, and with him in 2014 we win the natty title.

He didn't cheat, made good grades, worked hard, and was nothing but a positive off the court. Never got arrested, never got in trouble, and he represented the blue and white well.

Hate posts like this. If you don't like WCS then you're just not that big of a Kentucky fan.

I highly doubt this is true. He and KAT worked out extensively before the draft where WCS increased his vertical so many inches and he got himself in great shape.

You guys tend to take as fact with whatever gets posted on here...

Only video I have seen of WCS in training camp is getting blocked two times in a row by Cousins at the rim

So the best center in the league blocked a rookie's shot twice in training camp before the kid even plays his first game?

Groundbreaking.

Might as well trade him now, he's hopeless.
Looking for things that aren't there I see. I never even said anything bad about WCS. I said the only video that I've seen of him is getting blocked twice in a row and have not seen anything else. That is a fact. I didn't provide any comments about the report either.

Willie was never the guy that would run through a wall for you. He marches to the beat of a different drum. That being said....he is not in college anymore and this is his career and it is time to get serious. He is however only 22 years old and it is understandable that he might be ill prepared. I don't see this as a big deal if he learns from his acknowledged mistake.

..

The key words in your post: "BEFORE the draft." Of course he's gonna work hard before the draft, because that's when your draft position and first contract salary is determined. Anyone with a brain who likes money is gonna train hard during the pre-draft evaluation period, BUT it's only the true professionals that continue to bust their ass staying in shape after that guaranteed contract 's already signed.

The draft was nearly four months ago, that leaves a lot of time for a player to let himself go and perhaps do a bit too much celebrating.

Overreact much? I wasn't questioning the kid as a person. I'm not a fan of him as a player. Kid has some unreal God-given physical abilities but as of now doesn't have the mentality to apply himself. He wouldn't show up for weeks on end and game in and game out you weren't sure what version of WCS you weren't going to get.

He was a no show against Wisconsin and Notre Dame, and got completely outplayed by Kaminsky. If you can't see that then I don't know what to tell you.

Could you be more defensive? Are you sleeping with him?

Willie does NOT have sickle cell anemia. He has the trait for it which can be passed on to his children if the mom also has the trait or the disease. He would have ZERO symptoms from just having the trait. He just is not a completely dedicated basketball player which was obvious in about 50 percent of his college games. There is no sugar coating his lack of desire and effort.

Exactly. It's absurd the way our fans have repeatedly misunderstood and misrepresented this. All that story said was that he carries the genetic marker indicating that he possibly could get sickle cell anemia sometime in the future. He does NOT have it now, and It has absolutely no impact on his current health or conditioning (and hopefully never will). It's not any sort of excuse for him being out of shape at all.

Not surprised by this one bit. Nba will eat him alive if he doesn't get it together. Enough with the excuses.

How out of shape can he really be? Give me a break I say BS on this and his disease was just acting up. Willie will be fine. It is not like he is some obese player or something?

Once again, he DOES NOT HAVE A DISEASE. Not sure why this so hard for some to comprehend.

I'm saying to consider that this is the same organization that has run down Robinson, Cousins, Evans, Gay, McLemore and Stauskas.

I even included that all of those factors, on top of him putting other priorities ahead of basketball, yields that result. None of it excuses Willie.

It's all part of the puzzle to explain how this report comes to pass. There's a lot to consider when it comes to a guy like Willie. He's not just a player who battles weight issues or who had an injury.

Should also be noted he's never played major amounts of minutes consistently at UK in the way many other high picks have. Don't think the Kings drafted him expecting that, especially right away, but regardless, hearing that a rookie doesn't have the mindset or work ethic the team expects is not surprising or new.

Kid is 22 years old. Most people I know didn't quite "get it" when it came to work at that age, especially when they had never had a real job before AND if they were in a SUPER high pressure job for the first time. It takes a little bit of time.

He admitted it

“I’m going to have a training camp before the training camp,” the rookie big said. “I won’t ever come back to training camp out of shape like that.”

Well, it's cool that he admitted it and took the blame without making up any lame excuses (unlike some posters on this thread). But still not a good sign when your lottery pick quits working out immediately after he gets the contract and knows all that guaranteed money is assured.

It's time to be a grown up, Willie, which means year round commitment to your profession. Summers off are for kids.

I think there's a lot of pent-up anger geared toward WCS because of the Wisc loss. Yes, WCS sucked in that game but for a guy who never did much of anything wrong in college there seems to be a lot of people who are quite down on him w/out much of a reason other than his performance against Wisc.

Cats, cats, cats... Stop with the infighting. Regardless of your opinion on Willie, we had an amazing season and are now lined up once again as one of the favorites going into the season with a class full of badasses like Jamal Murray and Skal Labissiere to run in front of the indomitable Tyler Ulis.

Contrast this with having a total garbage team going into the year and also your entire program on the brink of destruction due to a massive prostitution scandal.

Keep it in perspective - We have NOTHING to be infighting about. Kumbaya, brothers.
