Supposedly due to background and medical history. Could someone please fill me in on his background? From what I saw and know, he is a model citizen who is all about helping the community. I know his medical history.

Most "experts" now have him going to the Pacers at #11.

Source of story????

Always thought WCS was more into other things than basketball. Not a guy totally consumed by it like AD or Wall. I imagine that's what some of these teams might be concerned about.

This time of year many stories are circulated by organizations to disguise their interest and opinion of a player, with the goal to make a player fall to them. I do not trust anything positive or negative I hear from a team or GM in the month running up to the draft.

Willie could slip. I have seen it every year in every draft - some player that got good media attention all year, but not really a dominate player, put top 5 or 10 in all the mock drafts until they suddenly starts falling as draft night nears. Obvious Willie has great talent, but no great stats and obviously not a highly motivated player. Maybe his selection as a first team All American will keep him going high. We'll see. It's not the end of the world for him because he will be rich and he has the talent to play for as long as he wants.

Smokescreen. Top-8 pick, imho. You've got some teams sandbagging and leaking negative reports to cover their interests. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up top-5.

There's a big rumor that WCS played football in high school, but it's yet to be confirmed

It's no rumor that he also played basketball but preferred football and went for basketball only after he grew passed 6'10", lost his starting QB position to a better player and was put at wide receiver. He at that point realized his potential was in hoops and took that route, but it was not for the love of the sport.

I actually never heard that. Is this something Willie has stated? Not doubting it because where I coach we see this happen quite often, but I just never heard that.

I never heard about Willie and football. Is this really true ?

I don't have the link, but I believe it may have been on Cal's site. It shows Willie playing in HS. All the QB had to do was get in the air, close to him, and of course, we know how he runs.

I've been a little bit surprised to see him drop in all the mock drafts I've seen. I'm guessing his passion for the game is the big question, plus add on limited offensive skills and I guess that's why he's dropping. Were there any reports of him not performing well at the draft camps? I don't think hell ever be an all star or superstar type player, but if he goes in with the right mindset he'll be a special defender who can stay in the league for awhile. It's really up to him to keep himself motivated and hungry.

Either misdirection by some teams; or the rumored sickle cell affliction that was mentioned last season. Cant imagine it being anything else. Unless teams are gun shy about his foot after the Embiid situation.

It's all about his foot. They're worried he'll injure it having a TD flashback after a monster jam. Those end zone dances are hell on the feet.

Exactly. Happens every year. The only surprising thing is that some people still take these reports seriously.

Doesn't surprise me. Any team that spends any time around should be turned off by him. He has world class size and athleticism but the taking games off, laziness, attitude and general lack of skill would be more than enough for me not to even think about him until after pick #20.

No way in hell is he a lotto level player IMO. He's a broke mans Deandre Jordan who takes games off.

He and Booker both are benefitting greatly from where they went to school. Put them on other teams and wcs is late first round at best and Booker is a sophomore next year.

Put them at other schools and both would have played 35 minutes or more a game. That would have probably made them a little better I believe. Plus if you are not a fan of them, its all good but I think you might be wrong about Willie going 20th or later.

WCS will go lottery... although I honestly believe if he does slip. He may end up having a lot more success if he goes 10-14 then 1-9 just because most good players succeed with better players around them :)

While some of this is true and some could be true, willie is a 7 footer who runs the floor well and still has a long way to go. I'm not sure I could come up with 19 prospects I'd rather go after.

I agree with the notion that booker on another team and he could be sitting in college right now. The Kentucky effect probably helped him out more than any recruit I've seen at UK.
as far as "background" I'd say it likely stems from the fact he's fairly aloof, has openly admitted basketball isn't his life.

Word on the street (can't reveal my source) is that he is strongly considering a career in the NFL. Not sure if you guys know this or not...but he DID play WR in HS. His NBA stock may be dropping...but his NFL stock is on the rise.

I always found it odd this board "finds it odd" that the media mentions he was a 7 foot wide out. That's really impressive, and rarely seen. Why are some so shocked they mention it every couple of games?

Not a big deal, it just seems like it's self explanatory. I'd be shocked if they weren't mentioning that all the time actually.

But did you realize that he is a 7 footer AND that he played WR in HS? Both facts are TRUE111!!!

Oh so he played football in high school and was 7 foot THEN, while playing wide out......

I thought he grew like AD right before he got here. Damn, think about that. A 7 foot wide receiver.

Carry on...

I hope Willie drops all the way to 15, or the Hawks trade up to get him. He would be great in Atlanta for our defense and our rotation.
