But I'd like to ask this question now and see where the answers end up by game week.

How do you see the Kentucky vs. Louisville matchup?

Now, I know... It's early. Really early. I think we have that fact down. It's on the table.

Now, UK is 2-0 with wins against a decent Sun Belt team, and a S.Car team who Lord knows how good they actually are (but they're definitely slipping). Our depth is young but talented and has a veteran cast on the front lines. UK IMO has more upside than Louisville this season with all the redshirt freshmen and true freshmen playing, getting reps, and experience (not to mention the sophomores who are only in their second season of CFB). Having that talented depth to come in for our experienced guys is invaluable. Towles looks consistent enough to grow into the solid QB we need in our offense, and this UK team is enjoying the best depth and talent at every position in the last 5 years.

UL is 0-2 with losses against a good Auburn team and a pretty good Houston team. They lost a LOT of talent to the draft and their offensive line still has a lot of holes (Auburn was living in their backfield the entire game). However, they have went to the wire with two good programs and just couldn't close. UL is better than UK at this point (barely, IMO) but they don't have quite the upside we do. Their offense stands to improve substantially if Bolin gets the nod from here on out. Not sure why he wasn't the starter this season, but he seems to have an "it" factor and helps his receivers. Louisville has a solid defense but is trying to replace several key players at several key positions.

Both teams will improve between now and when they collide.

There are a lot of variables. There are a lot of things I didn't mention. I just wanted to know in your honest opinion that if you have seen UL and UK play, then how do you see our teams evolving up to the point where the two rivals clash?

Also, Steelers2012, I haven't seen you around much lately. If you're reading this, how are you holding up as a mod?

I guess I'll be the first to disagree. UL is not better than us. We are way better offensively in ever facet. IMO at this time it's not even close. Defensively I'd say it is about even. We will get better when we get our 2 starters back on D. We are playing at home and hopefully will have a lot more to play for (if they keep losing). The crowd will be jacked up. I see us winning by 10.

We are better now than UL in EVERY facet of the game-- and this with a VERY young team that will continue to improve.

You can blindly say I'm crazy or actually give us a reason as to why you say that.

Auburn and Houston are ranked top 30. Both of them. ULL is not close to top 30 and Lord knows where S. Car is.

I never said that the wins and losses to this point were the only criteria. Did you even read the rest of my post?

Let me clarify: we are better than UL, but we would lose a game to them more times than a lot of you believe (in a series of say ten) because of our inconsistencies. We have more talent but we have yet to utilize it fully and a lot of aspects can be improved upon.

I knew you were a UL fan.... LOL.... You go down in Lexington to big brother..... Before that, you do down this weekend.... I will enjoy watching that.... We should have beat you last year... This year we're so much better than you....

We are UNDEFEATED we will kill Florida and destroy Louisville.

We lose to Florida on Saturday > We SUCK we will never win another game.

Just like the weather, UK fans change on a dime based on what they last (think) they saw.

Well that escalated quickly.

Must admit that's the first time I've ever been accused by anyone of being a Card fan. Sarcastic or not.

Oh well, go Cats. See you all when I put up the Mashup.

I think starting this season UL will not beat us for at least the next 5 years. That's because I think with continued improvement in recruiting we will pass them up significantly under Coach Stoops while we become a legitimate mid tier SEC team.

UL is not better than us. They have a suspect OLine, bad corners, a qb who can pass but can't run... and another who can run but can't pass, and have had poor tackling from their lb's (outside of Kelsey).....we win by 8-10 pts

I appreciate the post but don't see how you can say UL is better than UK, particularly on offense. Even if Petrino goes with Bolin I believe Towles is the better QB. There's no question that UK has a better line and while I really like Radcliff, Boom is the best RB between the two teams.
Personally I think the game will come down to who comes into the game healthest.

their d in getting the grantham treatment uga fans warned them about. they were sposed to have a really good front 7 but they haven't looked any better than ours.

houston won 8 games last year and ull won 9. houstons big wins last year were unlv and memphis and ull beat nevada in a bowl game and nevada beat unlv pretty good. so to say that houston is worlds better than ull is a stretch. houston beat ul who was considered a borderline top 25 team preseason and so houston is getting credit for beating a top 30ish team. ul was getting credit for playing an auburn team preseason ranked top 10 pretty close. 2 weeks into the season neither ul or auburn look to be as good as anyone thought.

it's still too early to tell what week 12 will bring but i feel more confident about us winning now than i did before the season started. it is funny to hear ul talk about "records be damned we played a harder schedule and we're better" when our schedule is usually ranked 60 to 100 spots ahead of theirs and they just want to talk about records and "you can only play the teams on your schedule".

Yeah, that was pretty weird IMO, but if you are a troll keep up the good work.

I don't see a blow out.. No matter the case. I feel we win the ball game by 7 or 10, but UL will put up a fight.. Rivalry games are funny usually.

I don't think the 1st 2 weeks of the season tell us very much about how Kentucky and Louisville will match up at the end of November. Right now, Kentucky is a team on the rise, and Louisville is reeling. Who can say how this will look more than 2 months from now? I suspect Kentucky will continue to improve as our passing game and our linebackers improve. Louisville has major questions on their offensive unit which may or may not get solved, and I think the genius Petrino has made some early mistakes that could damage his team's confidence. If Louisville's offense continues to struggle, their defense will wear down. I think Kentucky will go into that game with 6-7 wins, Louisville with 5-6 wins. The game will probably have bowl implications for both teams. Kentucky will be playing at home this year, which should be significant in the outcome. I like Kentucky to win this game, but it is still a long way away.

Too early. The reality is that UK beat two decent (but not great) teams. We could have blown both teams out, or we could have lost both games.

UL is the opposite side of the same coin. They're not a bad team. They have some talent. The error that much of their fanbase made was A) overrating the genius of their head coach and B) overrating their ability to reload, especially defensively. They could easily be 2-0, but unlike what most of them say, I think they were the lesser team in both contests. It's true that turnovers helped Auburn, but Auburn was in control of that game for more than 3 quarters (17-0 at half, 31-10 after 3). Houston ran 90 plays, so it's not as if that win was a fluke either.

In short, there's a fine line between success and failure. I think UK and UL are fairly evenly matched.

All I know is this...

UK will BRING IT against UofL this year!

UofL has comparable talent to UK but I feel that Stoops and his players are on a mission.

It will definitely be a hard fought game.

I think we'll get em this year at home.

They are? According to who? the same morons who put Auburn preseason top 6, predicted they would be in the playoffs? Who says South Carolina couldn't beat Auburn, not me? or Lafayette wouldnt beat Houston, last time I checked ULL was the FAR better non-power 5 program of the 2 over the last 5 years.

Yeah it is too far to predict, but I'll just say what the parent of a UK player told me over the summer......the ENTIRE team has 2 games on their minds driving them all offseason. The first is this Saturday. The second one is the very last regular season game. And that second one is just full on intense hate, one the entire team wants to not only win but do so in a dominant embarrassing fashion to shut up some fools. Do what you want with that information.

I was meeting with a buddy who I used to work with and who still helps me out at times. He actually used to play QB for UofL back in their old Metro Conference days. He was a backup. Regardless, he watches them with the eye of a former player and told me that he thinks Clemson can come in and put up 50+ points on Louisville based on what he's seen in their first two games. If that's the case, I would hope our offense will have progressed by the last game to the point where we can put enough points on the board to knock them off.

UL's dumpster fire QB situation is doing a great job overshadowing how awful their defense is playing, and played last season-end starting with the FSU debacle

Clemson ain't scoring 50 on Thursday...

UofL has looked vulnerable but Clemson isn't necessarily a "high powered" offense.
