I'm struck, once again, how many teams work the middle of the field passing more than we do. Not sure why that is. I know we do throw over the middle some, but both FL and UofL had big plays on deep ins and the WR was wide open in the very center of the field with room to run.

Even with Levis, it didn't seem like we threw over the middle as much as other teams.

Does someone know a reasonable answer?

Leary has overthrown a lot of those passes in the middle of the field. That's often a recipe for a turnover.

Edit: That's not really an answer to your question. Don't know why we don't utilize the middle of the field more.

I've heard that a lot, too. But, wouldn't a long out pattern be even more dangerous? The ball is in the air a long time to make those long throws vs quick, 8-10 yard throws right over the middle. I would attribute some of it to Leary's lack of height and ability to see over the LOS, but Levis was certainly tall enough to do so. It's sort of baffling to me.

Bc the middle of the field is a scary place where INTs could happen. Same mentality behind making little, to no effort, to score in end of half situations. That one really bugs me bc 99% of the time defenses give you the middle of the field to keep the clock moving. But, we have no interest in taking advantage, or, taking the risk. Then, more often than not, we give the ball back &, ironically, allow opponents to march down the middle of the field & they score before the half & steal what momentum we had. Gotta play it extremely safe at all times.
