Watching DVR of the game...Briscoe is tough

Fearless, tough, in your face, pit bull on defense, short memory, blood pressure probably doesn't get above 65.

If I were an opposing guard and saw Briscoe was assigned to me, I would probably cry like a little girl.

That's why they were trying to agitate him........because he was deep under their skin. Anybody thinking Hawkins needs his minutes is either not a UK fan or is related to Mr. Hawkins. I love Hawkins, but Briscoe is one of three STUD guards coming at other teams and that's why we are blasting teams.......teams have no idea how to cover everybody. I was dead wrong when I said this 3-guard offense doesn't work a month ago. It does now.

I was not high on Briscoe because of some of his limitations shooting the ball. I wasnt sure the team was explosive enough to afford him playing major minutes. But I am appreciating how Cal is leveraging his strengths to create matchup problems. And he is one tough kid. Rebounds and defends and is all over the court.

I rewatched the game today too, and you're right, he's tough.

Something I noticed about the T that Sirmons called on him though. At the time I thought it was for slamming the ball down but after watching it again I think it was simply for celebrating as Leach and Pratt first thought. If you watch the replay from under the basket (not live action), Sirmons doesn't call the T when he slams the ball but a few seconds later and is clearly looking in the direction of the celebration. Anyone else notice that? I may be way off here but that's what it looked like to me.

He may have waited till the ball came down,if Briscoe had caught it maybe......nah he would have called it anyway

You're not off base. Ball slam caught his eye and celebration sealed the deal for a T is the way I see it.

There is a lot I love about Briscoe, but he has got to cut down on the stupid stuff he sometimes does. I don't know how many times he's stepped on the baseline this year. The technical for slamming the ball down after Murray's dunk, while it was out of happiness, it still could hurt us in a much closer game. The chippiness he plays with at times, has to be contained come tourney time.

The toughness and scrappy D, I had seen out of him before.

What I hadn't seen until yesterday was some really nice passing. He threw a couple nice lobs.

One of my friends (a girl who knows zip about basketball) said that Briscoe is a "pussy". I was dumbfounded. Say what you want about his subpar shooting, but how you can watch him play almost every game and call him a pussy is beyond me.

One thing I noticed several times yesterday, including times the pass didn't come to him, when Tyler penetrates Briscoe is cutting hard to the basket from the opposite side. You can't stop Tyler from getting where he wants to go, teams just try to prevent him from shooting, and with Willis and Murray spotted up for 3s and Briscoe crashing to the rim, its hard to cover everybody.

Good post.

I'd love for Briscoe to come back and lead this team next year. He's exactly the type of verbal guy who could pull it off, too. His teammates all love him, and he's an encourager who doesn't mind deferring to the better players around him.

Plus, can you imagine the defensive potential of next year's team if Briscoe returned? Fox, Monk, Briscoe, Matthews, Gabriel, SKJ, Bam, and maybe Lee. They would be able to have matchup advantages on both sides of the court against anyone they faced, even Duke.

Tell her there's some UK fans who now think she's an ignorant when it comes to basketball. You can deflect and tell her you didn't say it, so you can still get the shot in without having to own the aftermath.

Good points. UK is starting to look like a team. Remarkable stuff, and almost always like clockwork when it comes to Cal-coached teams.

After Ulis, Briscoe is the smartest player on our team. He does the little things. If the kid could hit his FTs, he'd be awesome.

Hope he comes back next year. We could use his D, ballhandling, penetration and leadership. I'm sure he'll work on his shooting in the offseason.

I'm constantly amazed at how he can worm his way into the middle and make these acrobatic shots with all these huge players surrounding him. Tough, creative, crafty and fearless. I just smdh after those shots.

I thought coming in that he'd be in that Archie Goodwin/Joe Crawford mold - a stubborn bulky combo guard that just puts his head down and barrels towards the basket and prays for a foul..

Instead, we got an immensely coachable, tough as nails guy who has as nice a layup as any guard we've seen in a long time and who absolutely kills it on defense. He might be the worst shooting guard in the history of the world, but he works his butt off - he was the first guy in Ulis's breakfast club. He will work out his kinks and end up an excellent player, I think.
