Was Sunday's game's officiating the worst in any basketball game since this?

It's absolutely unbelievable that some posters on the national board didn't notice Kentucky getting HOSED in that game. It is incomprehensible to me. It was obvious to me by the first TV timeout. Thoughts?! Oh, and to the OP....This is the worst officiated game I have ever watched. At least as far as UK is concerned. Wisconsin in 2015 comes close. We got whistled for everything the last 10 minutes of that Wisconsin game. Evey ****ing call went against us. Like Cal said, it's on TV.

No one can watch that 2002 WCF and tell me that refs are incapable of being biased and corrupt. These aren't mistakes. These are whistles to dictate a game and determine an outcome.

1991 UNLV went down to Duke in a similar fashion as Kentucky went down to Wisconsin. Garbage officiating, which both occurred in Indianapolis (where the NCAA head office is, mind you :) and both resulted in undefeated seasons being wiped out due to a generous whistle for their opponents.

Go to the 5:20 mark to tell the call that gave Duke the national championship from the free throw line.

Yep. I always thought that it being in Indy was of great significance. You're the only person I've heard bring that up. Good catch. My data is throttled. I'll watch that 1991 deal tomorrow. Thanks.

I'd say unbelievable ..except it's Duke..Fagner pushed off then they called it on Vegas....has Duke ever been on the wrong end of one of these calls?

The only team who seemed to have Duke's number in Final Four games was UConn. They took them down in 1999 and 2004 and I don't recall Duke getting the typical Dukie treatment in either game.

I taped the game and watched it Monday night, it didn't look as bad on TV as in person. Meeks was swinging those hips like a Hawaiian hula dancer pushing Bam like a bouncer at a night club...thats perfectly acceptable, Bam meanwhile had to walk on eggshells and poor Fox I won't even go there...yes I will that little white dude came in and schooled him with the zebras allowing it.

Meeks flat out laid his entire upper body on Bam the entire game. He was over everyone's back. It was unreal.

If you want to "weight" the outcome of a game as opposed to outright fixing it, you call two quick fouls on the team's most athletic player(s). Then they have to play the rest of the game tentatively. Even when we won in 2012 this almost cost us when Indiana drew two "fouls" on Anthony Davis early on.

Reminds me of NASCAR at Daytona and Talladega. They can't fix races, but they can sure give advantages or disadvantages to whoever they want.

Is that TV Teddy Valentine calling that game? Another problem with refs, they stick around for farrrrrrrrrr too long.

The NCAA needs some new, young guys to wash out the Good Ol' Corrupt Boys Club it's become.

Yep. That's TV Teddy who called that garbage and then made sure to emphatically waive his arms five times.

But that's not even as bad as the 1989 national title game call that gave Michigan the title. This is about as shady as it gets. This ref chose to decide the game.

And my favorite part is the way CBS immediately cuts to a replay and breaks down the foul, assuaging any viewer concerns about the accuracy of the call.

Oh, wait. No replay?

This is part of the reason the Wisconsin game doesn't bother me as much as many on here. I watched the "homer" broadcast with Dave and Rex and believe me, every time Kaminsky hip checked the Harrisons on screens they pointed it out. You don't stress as much when the announcers point out the bad calls.

The 2001 Final Four game between Duke and Maryland was also pretty terrible. Maryland took Duke to the woodshed during the first half, but the officials managed to reverse things in the second half by giving Duke an extremely favorable whistle. The officiating in the second half of that game was as lopsided in favor of Duke as anything you'll ever see.

Was going to post that one. Maryland led Duke by 22 points in the first half and by 11 at halftime. Lonny Baxter fouled out on some of the most ridiculous calls I have ever seen in my life. Was living in DC then and the Maryland fans felt exactly the same way we do now. Their forums were filled with screen shots of bogus calls on the Terps and non calls on Duke. Those refs robbed Maryland of probable back to back championships.

One of the big reasons Maryland finally left the ACC was they were sick of the abuse by the officials in basketball whenever they played Duke or UNC.

Maryland did not leave the ACC because of refs

Isn't the NCAA based in Connecticut? Blood is thicker than water!!!!

Spoke to another coworker.. hadn't had a chance to catch up with him since the UK loss. He was a D1 Football coach, lot of ties with the New York basketball scene.

He said it was the worst officiated game he's ever seen. He's not even remotely a Kentucky fan, but went into all the fouls, like Fox getting bumped left and right. Said "If those were my (kentucky) players... " Shook his head and walked away.

Might be worse than the OTHER time we played UNC in 2010/11 when we fouled out almost our entire team.

The worst UNC game was 1990, just after the revenge beatdown against Kansas. It was the emergence of Rusty Herring, which caused Pitino to get tossed the next year against Georgia Tech when he screamed, "You cost us the Carolina game and you're costing us this one, too."

Yep. Straight out of the Donaghy playbook. And yet, some think we live in a world where such intentional acts are an impossibility. I guess all officials are a perfect form of human, or a robot....

You guys posting these videos are making me glad that we don't have to listen to Billy (fudge)Packer anymore. Gosh, that guy was on Duke's nuts even more so than Dickie V! Unreal.

Actually, he was an ACC shill with a particular weakness for North Carolina. His son, Mark, follows the same playbook. He hosts a show on Sirius XM, and it's been a UNC-slobber fest all week long.

1970 UK vs. Jacksonville was bad as well. Refs took Issel out of the game in the second half and UK still almost pulled it off behind Tom Parker. Bad calls the entire game in that one too.
