Go to Twitter and read the responses to Tyler Ulis's post about looking forward to football season. With "fans" like that, who needs enemies...

well not a very big sample size but I know what you mean.

What's really telling is some of our "fans" on here that constantly want to lower expectations on the football program. I sense that they are starting to feel the spotlight move off of round ball a little bit and onto football (which is a 5x bigger sport) and it makes them feel a bit uncomfortable.

Not surprised at all. Had a neighbor a few years ago who was a self-proclaimed HUGE UK fan and alum... I was talking to him one day...said I was heading to the football game that weekend. He remarked that he wouldn't walk across the street to see UK football.

Whatever.

Winning cures all ills.

I'm sure Oscar and Matt were on there opining ...I wonder (even if he can see it with his own eyes)is still sticking with his story that CWS cannot be renovated because it is so structurally unsound that it is about to fall down...Amazing what stuff these basketball only people will come up with to stop the advancement of the football program:thumbsdown::flush::football::football:

I'm really tired of the fanaticism involved with UK basketball even though I've watched it all my life. When you have a basketball message board packed with people during football season, there is just something psychologically wrong with those people. They seriously need to get a life of some kind outside of basketball. It's seriously creepy and weird.

I have never understood the UK basketball only fan. Or, even worse, the UK basketball fan that openly roots for a different college football team.

I am a UK anything fan PERIOD!!!!
Exactly. I would root for UK if they had a basket-weaving team. I do not understand those that feel the need to denigrate the football team. Perhaps if basketball had not been sucking up all the oxygen (and money) the past 50 years, football would not have gotten to the state is was in.

Even though I do root for UK in all sports I follow football, basketball and baseball closely. I do love basketball because we have success, but, my passion is football and every year I hope we have a good team. With that said most years I am disappointed, but, it appears we are improving and I can't wait for the season to start. Now if we could only upgrade our baseball facilities and hire a coach that can actually coach I think I would be happy year round.

Don't think basketball is the reason football has been poor. It has been a series of bad decisions made by the athletic department and lack of support. Don't see what's wrong with discussing either sport at any time of the year.

Please, please, don't even mention a basket weaving team.

UL now not only has basket weaving I and II to keep their players eligible, they have a graduate course in it for players that can't graduate in four years. And of course it has been a staple at TU for years. We wouldn't stand a chance against either of them in a basket weaving contest.

I personally don't like the people that are football fans and try to pick fights with the basketball fans. How many of you football fans are all in when basketball season is going on? I am a football season ticket holder and a basketball fan that cancelled my season tickets three years ago (I didn't own the basketball tickets, I bought them from someone.) Basketball was just too hard because of night games and distance. I don't see why there is a problem between the two sports. I don't hear basketball fans complaining about football fans. Is it because the basketball team wins? Probably. Could it be because the football fans are territorial? It could be. Can't we all get along? Let's all support BBN.

Amen to this. Drives me nuts.

And a big Whiffffffffff...
Go read the replies to Ulis' post. It was a basketball-only UK fan making fun of the football program. I am a UK fan year round and I am all in for every sport (and academics) 365 days a year.

Yup, that's just what I said.

As a quest here I am a little hesitant to say anything about the site but here goes. Its 3 weeks from the beginning of football season, fall camp is in full swing, but the the UK Rivals site has had its lead story about BB recruiting a couple times in the last week. That never happens on UGA sites, maybe because we recruit BB poorly, but it just isn't going to happen at most other SEC schools, if any. At this time all their lead stories are about practice, injury updates, position battles.

First off it's Twitter. If you believe Twitter is the pulse of anything, I'm not sure what to tell you. That is just the most naive thing on the planet. Yes, there are a lot of UK basketball only fans. UK football gets the treatment they get bc they've been a losing program for the better part of 50 years now. 5 wins isn't going to turn those type of people's opinions. 3 straight bowls didn't do it so UK football has a lot of ground to gain and may never gain it with some. Oh, and it's just bass ackwards here at UK. Those fans packing the Basketball board in Aug are the same as the Bama fans packing their football board in March. I've never gotten the whole UK football vs UK basketball thing. You want to be mad at someone be mad at the administration not basketball. Be mad at the boosters, not the basketball program.

Basketball is not an expensive sport to run so in no way is it sucking the money away from the program. UK chose not to build it's program and the boosters followed the winners. I've been a football season ticket holder for 5 years now. I love UK football always have and I love UK basketball. I wouldn't take a few snide remarks from guys on Twitter as this is where the programs sit with each other. You can say whatever on Twitter without repercussions and most everybody on there thinks they are a comedian

I didn't read it, but I know what your talking about. The other day someone on the Rafter's said MJ and KSR had too much coverage on football. Of course I couldn't help but mention a rather different, and prevailing opinion here. I don't get it. I'm a UK fan so why wouldn't I be a UK football fan? I guess some really just don't care anything about the school or anything else but the basketball program.

A bit OT, speaking of being critical of sites. Right here at CI when I go to the football front page I see the 2012 season stats, and the 2012 depth chart. I'm pretty sure this is 2015. Seems like the stats should show 2014, and the depth chart 2015. And the 2015 schedule shows only 11 games. Seems KSR isn't the only UK site who could pay a little more attention to football.

Being a UK alum, this entire issue makes no sense to me accept maybe with the small percentage of people who just hate football. Even then, if you call yourself a UK fan, you should be cheering them on in some fashion. I LOVE UK - I don't care about which sport. The football haters are more than likely bandwagon basketball fans who only cheer on that sport when we're winning big.

I am a fan of both and even watch the baseball team when they are on TV. I like all UK sports and follow both year around. I don't think it's creepy and weird to follow your sports teams in the off season. All year I usually visit both the basketball and football boards.

I'm trying to understand your post. Yes I had heard the Rumor about the stability of Commonwealth Stadium. Other than hear- say do you have anymore proof about the structure .
You know The fans should all be united and behind all UK teams! Now is football season and I'm pumped about it. I love football and as an athlete way back I played every play like it was my last. My biggest problem now is I'm an amputee and due to parking I don't know what to do. no longer able to walk to top of stadium. My best option is get together with friends on Saturdays.
Got off track a little so accept my apology. With 120 million dollars invested in Commonwealth where are you coming from? Sorry don't understand your post!

When rumblings first surfaced about the Commonwealth renovation, Oscar went on a Twitter (and other social media) tear ranting and raving that he had heard "from people that knew" that CWS was a structurally unsound facility and would have to be demolished within the next 10 years. Of course, at the same time, Oscar was promoting the idea of UK building a new, on-campus basketball arena... If you mention it to him now, he blocks you on Twitter... [laughing]

Why would you hassle an old man for his ramblings? Ain't nobody got time for that. I'd block people too.

"Creepy and weird" is a little much. Unless you think the rest of the SEC, Ohio State, Michigan etc. fans are creepy and weird for having active football message boards during basketball season?

No one is "mad at the basketball program", only those fans of UK Basketball that disparage our football program. I want UK to succeed in every athletic program!!! It's that simple.

So it shouldn't be hard to see how upsetting it is to UK Football fans when the UK Basketball only fans make these ridiculous comments to the team leader of our basketball team.

RailRoacCat1...Sorry I guess my fingers weren't working when I typed that...Oscar Combs is the one who was saying that he had been told the stadium wasn't structurally sound enough to redesign. You will have to refer that question to him as he made those comments. I just think folks like Oscar and Matt want fb to be good , but not "really" good. I am one of those that wants to see a marriage of fb and bb fans...I think we are the one fan base in the sec that would be rabid for both sports especially if we all are like the group of guys I go with...
As for your disability, I am very sorry , but are you aware that UK has a handicapped section around the top of the lower level and it is accessible by elevator if you are wheelchair bound...Know a couple of folks that do this..Hope this helps you and your are able to watch this years BOWL BOUND team...GOCATS...#ALL IN

Grumpy hit the nail on the head. This kind of thread will never exist on any other SEac message board. This notion of football only, basketball only....we're Kentucky fans people!

Of course this is true. No other school has more basketball-only fans than can fit in a phone booth - if anyone remembers what those were like.

On one hand, that UK basketball would have more fans and a more fanatical fan base seems obvious, given it's historical standing. On the other, I'd like to think any hostility between UK basketball fans and UK football fans is pretty limited, like, to a relative handful of people on the internets.

I lived in Knoxville for a while (late 90s) and at least then there was a real open hostility between UT football and UT women's basketball. Each wanted to be king. That was real, and fairly widespread....

sluggercatfan I appreciate your response. Thank you but no need to feel sorry it's all part of ageing and other health problems. I have learned to deal with it. So every day I wake Up I thank our Lord I'm still here and hope the Cats are playing something. I can.t wait for the Football season to start. Bye the way you expressed yourself as a fine fellow and a UK Fan.
