wanna be pissed?

Ridiculous. No Uk? Of course. Penn State? Tennessee? Please. Baylor got the shaft too being that low. Pretty worthless ranking.

That ranking doesn’t anger me at all…doesn’t even upset me because anyone, ANYONE who has watched college football this season, know that ranking is a complete joke…and that is not even considering the lack of respect for UK.

Honestly, ESPN should be embarrassed to even publish it.

Its a computer generated poll, not something put together by human's at ESPN. Obviously that is ridiculous to not have us on there but im interested in to see how the spots are computed by their system.

Iowa still #10, lol..... ESPN is the CNN of sports, promoting an agenda over fair reporting. Must be a mistake here of some sort
Its not meant to be reporting, its a computer generated system that is updated automatically based off results and advanced metrics

This is the right take. ESPN needs to explain that they don't stand by the fpi, but that they leave it up because it's interesting. They should explain the metrics and use it as a conversation piece about how metrics lie.
But, that would only draw clicks from nerds like us and not rage clicks from pissed off fan bases like us. So...🤷‍♂️

Got to be a joke. Lot of teams that lost are high and teams that are good get disrespect like Baylor for example.
UT, Purdue, Miami, Penn state, Auburn, Iowa state, Wisconsin, Texas AM shouldn't be on the list. Other teams ranked way too high like ND for example

LOL
It spit out 3-9 Nebraska two spots over 10-4 Iowa.
But you'll notice it's a story from another service.
I've never seen espn Hype it up itself.
They use it to say who they think will win big games, but never show the rankings.

Here is your answer to "How are the spots computed by the system. The spots are computed poorly by their system or else we would be ranked.

Why get pissed at a computer?

FPI uses strength of competition and how well/poorly you play against that competition. Just eyeballing the data, UK doesn't have a win against anyone in the Top 30, and that kills any team's rating. Georgia and Tennessee were the only teams in the Top 25 they even played.

Yep, it’s based off a computer generated algorithm. Not biased, just awful. Anyone with any knowledge of the NCAAF landscape would roll their eyes at this ranking. Iowa state #10…auburn, penn state, Miami, Texas A&M, Wisconsin, etc. all being ahead of us is a complete joke. Notice Iowa isn’t in the FPI top 25 either. Also, if you pull up the full rankings, 5-7 Texas who didn’t even get a bowl is also ahead of us at 26.

And "advanced metrics" can't be biased? You can make statistics promote anything you want them to. Advanced metrics my eye

I think what’s obvious is that the FPI model heavily weights preseason power rankings. So to that end it’s biased towards those teams that were highly regarded before the season started. Will be interesting to see if ESPN improves their model for next year and beyond to better align with results. The FPI is supposed to be a predictive tool like sagarin or kenpom, but it’s vastly behind them on results.

And who are those teams? The teams the ap media promotes, uk is generally never one of those in the preseason.

I’m on your side that the model sucks. I just don’t think there is anything malicious from this. You can go down the list of every team and see that the teams that overperformed expectations are undervalued in the final results and the teams that underperformed expectation are overvalued. But at the end of the day, this model has no actual importance. The most it is used is to generate the winning percentage likelihood that is used in the ESPN app.

and im sure the teams are valued due to preseason rankings which mean nothing. Does it take into account injuries or weather conditions? If its pouring rain a team that throws the ball is going to be at a disadvantage vs a running team. Or maybe half the team tested positive for covid and lost the game or the game was tight because of it. Maybe coach left for another job or rumors of a scandal made the team play sloppy against a lesser team.
Takes into account those?

All you have to look at is ND rated above the team, OkSt., that beat them as well as UK being left out. It's humorous how stupid they've become.
