w/AP poll coming out Mon. and UK looking to crack top 25 preseason for 1st time in 44 yrs (circa 1978)

Where do you guys think UK lands come Monday?

Ill say #20
We’ll get disrespected and they’ll put some bullshit ACC team ahead of us that we would beat by 21. But I’m sure they’ll put us at #22. All the podcasts talk about how we can’t replace wandale and the o-line so they’re betting the under on our win total. They have no clue what we have.

21 in the other poll. If you look who they have ahead of us and who I would bet on us in a straight up win bet... We should be anywhere from 15 to 24... You could argue even 13 if you believe the ol is as solid as last year.

I’ll say the AP puts us 23-25 . . . 6 to 8 slots below where we should be.

It’ll be interesting where Iowa and Penn State are ranked: PSU is coming off a 7-6 season, IIRC, and Iowa lost to us with 12 players missing and multiple transfer portal guys being used to fill the gaps.

#24

Coaches show us more respect than biased media hacks who unthinking vote in Knoxville, Texas, So Cal, Nebraska, LSU as usual

Can't really complain about our ranking in the Coaches poll but looking down the list, some of these ACC teams ahead of us are highly questionable. Am I wrong?

13. NC state
16. Pittsburgh
17. Miami
19. Wake Forest

To be fair Pitt and Wake were both 11-3 last year and probably deserve a good ranking, State was a 9 game winner, no clue about Miami, I guess they are back again.

yeah, I don’t get the love for the ACC.
The big argument lately is that the sec only looks good because we have so many teams ranked preseason. They think we have 1 or 2 good teams and the rest just look good because we had 6 ranked preseason. I suspect some shenanigans are occurring to try to pump up the acc. People think having more teams ranked preseason offset wins and losses. My guess is those teams will underperform and they'll have to come up with another excuse.

Oddly, though, the post-season tells the tale!

The strong tilt to the SEC was as strong last recruiting class as ever.

Vandy finished 35th in recruiting, and nine ACC programs finished lower than Vandy.

Jesus Christ that's telling.

I know UK wants to make the playoffs, awfully hard to do starting outside top 25.

UK has one path to the playoff: go undefeated.

If they beat UGA and Alabama/the team who wins the West, they are in the playoff. No questions asked and very likely #1.

Coaches poll, AP poll, they don't matter. They let networks advertise match-ups. No more. The playoff committee meets when the season is halfway over and that ranking is irrelevant until the ccgs are played.

There could be a 1-loss scenario that gets UK in, but they still have to beat UGA and most likely an undefeated West team.

I think UK is our toughest game this season, expecting the defense to take a step backwards, offense to be best we ever had.

While we expect our defense to step up a notch and our offense to step up a couple of notches. I think this is a year where the gap has closed some between us and Georgia. Last year was a pretty competitive game for the most part, until a couple of mistakes did us in. We get you at home this year and the atmosphere will be electric if the game is to decide the East. Could even see that as a ESPN Gameday type game if it's for the East.

Good Lord

What brought that out? I said I thought UK would be our toughest game, which we could very well lose, that our defense will take a step back because we lost 8 to the draft and only return 4 starters. Offense returns 4 OL starters, the best and deepest TE room in the country, 3 of our top 4 WR, a QB who won a NC and 3 RB with career averages all over 5 ypc, not great but good enough. We averaged 38 pts a game last year, I think we will put up more this season.

As I said earlier I think UK will be our toughest game, we won't be as good against the run as last but should be better in the secondary. But playing late is one advantage in our favor, gives the new guys some experience. What little info we have gotten the offense has looked very good running and passing.

Hopefully it isn't snowing or sleeping GameDay which would be a miserable day, unless low teens I don't think temp is a big deal.

That was what I meant, I guess he took it a different way. I agree I think OL and DB are always keys.

Looking week one matchups West Virginia @ #17 Pitt and #23 Cincy @ #19 Arkansas. Two games to watch as we could possibly make a few spot jump after Miami OH

I don't know much about Pitt, but Cincy is replacing a QB alone with the Thorpe winner while Arky is returning aloy and grabbed some players from the portal. I would like to see WVU and Daniel's have a good year, he could have been an issue for us last year.
