This kid did a good job playing QB at the highest level of Kentucky High School football. I see no way that there could be a down side to giving this kid a preferred walk on. Stranger things have happened than this kid getting a chance to get some meaningful time at QB for the Cats down the road. I don't see Phillips being much better more talented than this kid. He has a good arm and makes good reads. The main down side for the kid is he is not very mobile. He would need to play behind a good OL.

My hopes for a speedy recovery goes out to Reese but I do not believe that he would have been number one or number two at QB in the coming season.

IMO with time to grow stronger and learn the UK offense I think Mattingly could be a contributor at QB for UK. He has decent arm strength, makes decent reads and is accurate. His main liability seems to be lack of mobility. Put him behind a good OL and he could do a decent job.

I hope I am right because he is likely the 3rd string QB with the loss of Reese to injury.

I think I also saw somewhere that Saint Xs QB is walking on at UK. He is mobile and a decent runner but seems a little turnover prone.

Yes it sucks that Reese Phillips is injured, mainly because Drew Barker is about one more screw up from losing his opportunity. Barker better avoid trouble, keep his nose clean and act like a leader starting now.
