We have a player with plenty of potential but needs a lot of work . I'm not discouraged at all by his early play , in fact I'm intrigued to see what the end result will be . I see plenty of calls to bench Skal but what good would that do , he needs experience more than anyone on the team to close the gap . New players are still figuring out the college game , chemistry with a completely new starting five hasn't and nor should it have developed yet . The game is moving too fast for Skal right now , it will start to slow down and he will become more assertive . We have the components to be good this year , they just need time to figure it out .

Exactly....players develop differently and Skal is no exception. He missed playing time due to injury, he has not been playing that long and is learning a completely new system. I will choose to wait and see and hope that the staff can give him the tools he needs to succeed. I predict he is much better by February..

For UK to be good, Skal needs to be good and for Skal to be good, he has to play. That doesn't mean he's invincible and his minutes or starting spot can't be taken, but he needs to see the floor.

With that said, any NBA scout that tries to convince his boss to use their first round pick on Skal based on what we've seen thus far in this short season is really laying his job on the line IMO. Without drastic improvement, I see no way Skal doesn't return next year. He's the type of guy that shouldn't settle for a late first round pick either, not when he could work his way up to a top 5 pick. Big money difference there.

Didn't catch the OSU game. The most important question I have is, How was his attitude? Won't lie, that's been pretty subpar for the season. Was he into the game or head down and no emotion?

When he's enjoying his time here and playing for Cal and his teammates, that's when you'll see his potential.

Good post, OP. Some of our fans are silly and some of them even shade on stupid. They have chosen to forget the 2011 and 2014 seasons, two groups of players who were essentially given up on by many fans right here on this message board.

Both teams performed when it mattered most, and both teams featured freshmen who struggled early on (Brandon Knight, Andrew Harrison) but transformed in order to lead their teams to Final Fours.

Skal basically didn't play competitive basketball in more than a year before he came to UK. We're seeing the effects of that lack in playing real basketball. If he has the same issues in February, I'll begin to worry. Until then, UK is fine.
