Earlier this spring linebacker J.J. Weaver praised Goodwin’s work ethic and determination to drop weight.

“He works with (strength) coach Ed (Corey Edmond) every day. He beats me in the gym and I’m always the first one in the gym, so he’s a dog. He’s working. He’s losing all that weight he needs to do, so I’m proud of him for doing that for sure,” Weaver said.

I'm getting a real K Goodwin starts Week 1 at LT vibe... possible that Steen took a look and said, "Nope..."?
I think they might like to start him out with a lighter workload and increase PT as the season progresses.
Good point on Steen. With Buford and Goodwin both progressing well, I'm wondering if they still take an LT from the portal?

Prolly more likely, I'll admit. But still, I'm left wondering "if".

If you can get a solid tackle regardless of side you take them. If not for anything else but depth. Tackles are like QBs there are only so many good ones. If you can get one it is always a take.

Great interview. He's very mature for a kid who's technically supposed to still be in High School. He is a kid who has the body type that could easily get out of control like a Jared Lorenzen or Matt Elam, but he seems to have the dedication, discipline and drive to make sure that doesn't happen. Looking forward to big things from the young man.

Agreed, but the issue with transfers will typically be they are moving for near locked in snaps. Seems we might already have guys who leave the impression they pose a serious threat to a transfers starting role and/or snap count.

The concerning thing is that he showed up on campus weighing 400 pounds.

It is great that he’s busting his butt now. I hope he doesn’t have severe weight issues for his future.

Wait, he showed up 400 lbs? He's still a tad heavier than he needs to be, but I was thinking he was around that 350 to 360 mark.

He was 400 pounds in 8th grade and has worked hard to be in shape ever since. I haven’t seen anything saying he showed up to campus weighing 400 lbs. Everything that has been written has said he’s in great shape.

i've seen his 8th grade pics, and he definitely looked to be that much. he's trimmed down significantly based off the current videos i've seen of him in practice.

My goodness, weighing that much in the 8th grade would be both a blessing and a curse. Glad he is making the most of it.

Hey dumbass, he started at left tackle for the Adidas HS All American Bowl January 8th, and he weren't 400 lbs

I think a teammate and/or a member of the staff said that he has been working hard to drop some weight this spring. I don’t recall anyone saying he weighed 400 pounds.

He is currently 360 and that is down from 400 when he got on campus. People don’t believe me, but it is straight from people on the football staff.

The Oline coach literally said he's a great specimen, but he is no where near ready for the field mentally. He also said he did not have adequate Oline coaching in HS and is way behind on his technique, that he has gotten by on size alone. He hopes to bring him up to a point where ha can get developmental snaps and believes he has te work ethic and coachability to get there.

Yezner said he showed up overweight and he's working with the S&G coaches to get down to a proper playing weight.

I don't see how 400 lb could ever be a blessing.
If you are that tall and athletic it can be. I agree it would be a curse for most, not for him, he should be commended. We had a 6' 1" 330 pound kid, drove his Dads new Cadillac all the time lowered to the ground. Talked him into coming out for football, but if he got on his back it was a real struggle, had to have help to get up. Only lasted a day or two. Sad to see.

I guess you have the little man syndrome with the way you talk so big. What exactly makes him or her a dumbass.
JHB has enough know-how to back up a lot of the attitude. A bit snippy at times, but I respect their opinions.

400 lbs is a big ol boy. Like... big ol big boy. Elam was like 360. Goodwin doesn't look close to Matt's size, IMO.

Interesting that that article is using mostly old quotes I've read in multiple articles from other sources. I believe they were from open interviews at Spring practice. I love Larry, but what is that?
Maybe Larry likes to recycle. 🤨
