I have taken the time to review Vandy vs Houston and Vandy vs Florida. In both games after reviewing I could not gather how the score was as close as it was. I looked up some stats that usally answer this question. Vandy has very good knack of creating turnovers on their own end of the field. ( they lead the league in fumble recoveries and all have been on their own side of the 50. amazing) Also, they have a good knack of keeping teams out of the endzone once they get close. Florida dropped a TD, missed a FG, went for it on 4th and missed and faked a FG against Vandy. 4 trips inside the 20 and 0 points. Vandy may play the softest zone I have ever seen until it is third down or until they get into the red zone. Then they usually go man and bring 6. UK needs to expect this and swing the running back with the QB looking frontside for the 6th man. If he is coming, hit your hot RB and make them pay. Houston did this but would follow it up with a holding penalty and move backward.
I am less impressed with Vandy afer watching these two games than I was before hand.I like #45 a lot but they live on good fortune more than exceptional play. Here are a few screen shots for now. Will update later.
Here is what I wold label their base look. A 3 deep zone. Notice the strong side LB On line of scrimmage) and the Safety (LB depth over #2 wr) are near identical. Thus, one will often drop while the other comes.
Here is ther quarters look. Any combination of the 7 in the run box may blitz. Seem to like to bring Sam and Wll together.
Here they bring all 3 linebackers and play man from their cover 4 shell.
Here is their country cover 2. Corners sitting in the flats, safeties deep half. This is a risky coverage tot he trips side. They are banking on getting pressure before the three vertical routes can conflict the safety. (it worked too)
Here is their cover 1 bringing 6. Here is where I wouild like to see the back release and if the hot linebacker comes, QB gets it to the uncovered back right now.
