Vanderbilt's Outlook

Columbus, OH
12 wins, 9 losses, 4-4 in the SEC thus far.
KenPom ranking: 38
SOS: 16
Top 50 wins: Stony Brook, Florida
All 9 losses to top 60 teams

Remaining schedule...

vs Texas A&M
at Mississippi
vs Missouri
at Auburn
vs Georgia
at Florida
vs Kentucky
vs Tennessee
at Texas A&M

10 games left, but only 4 quality opponents. 2 at home, 2 on the road. 6 other SEC games they are projected to win.

Say they go 7-3, with wins over A&M or UK at home...and they enter the SEC Tournament 19-12, 11-7. They would have a good RPI, good power ranking, good SOS and would likely be an SEC Tournament win away (would likely be a 5 or 6 seed) from getting an NCAA bid.

Thoughts?

but seriously, I think Vandy has been the most underachieving team BY FAR of anyone in the conference, and prob'ly the most disappointing team in the whole country this year.

Personally, being a Nashville native, I love seeing Stallings slowly twist in the winds of discontent down here. I'm pulling for them to go ahead and pull the trigger and fire him at season's end (thus, cutting off their nose to spite their hideous, collective face) and setting the program back at least a decade (or more).

That remains my hope !

hehehehe

Vandy should have hit another gear by now. They seem to have stalled. They really needed to win yesterday bit as I understand it I believe Baldwin was injured so that would explain part of the reason for the loss.
Hopefully they can help us out by beating aTm on Thursday.

that's cold man.......but I like it,my dislike for Vandy goes back to the days of Roy Skinner and Clyde Lee.

My thoughts. Vandy has excellent personnel and strong overall talent. They were hurt for a while because Damian Jones missed some games with an injury. Jones is back now, clearly 1 of the SEC's best players. But sometimes a team just lacks 1 element that keeps it from coming together. When we played Vandy in RA, I noticed Baldwin is their only player with SEC type quickness. All night, they were a step too slow for us. So I think Vandy plays at a disadvantage against quicker teams that can beat them to spots on the floor and force them out of their halfcourt sets. That's why they shot poorly, and why we blew them out. I think they will have this same problem against other quick teams, and that means trouble in March if they get that far.

I hate playing at Vandy. I think they get the most favorable whistle in the SEC.

I could see Vandy (12-9, 4-4) potentially only going 5-5, 4-6.

These are VU's potential losses:
- at Texas A&M, at Florida, at Ole Miss
- Texas A&M, Kentucky, ?Georgia/?Tennessee

At 17-14 or 16-15, Vandy is most likely an NiT team or worse this year. They haven't really broken through this year with a quality nonconference win or quality road/neutral win.

Damian Jones didn't miss any games (Kornet missed 5 games, they were 2-3 in those games).

Stallings is a horrible coach. He does just enough not to get fired. Remember when they had A.J. Ogilvy? He actually got worse each of his 4 years. Damian Jones is a NBA player; he should be getting the ball on the block every time down the court, but for some crazy reason he doesn't. Baldwin is very talent. Kornet is good (although he needs to get stronger as he prefers to stay outside and jack up 3's).

Stallings has won 1 NCAA Tournament game from 2008-present. Think about that. People think Vandy is such a basketball school (they have 10 all-time NCAA wins ... or 1 less than we have the past 2 years combined).

Vandy has been disappointing this year, but they have enough talent and enough time to make a case for the tourney. The problem is time is running out fast.
