they play a pumpkin then host Memphis before entering SEC play

I've watched them play and actually think they are pretty decent. I think they'll go 10-8 in the SEC and make it into the Big Dance.

Having said that, why in the world would you be playing D2 Francis Marion University (their next game) this late in the season? Shouldn't that be an exhibition game?

Why is it that they were 10-0 but barely cracked the Top 25, whereas UL was 9-1 and at #16. Neither has beaten anybody. I guess running up the score on cupcakes and one good half against a good team really impressed the voters.

South Carolina hasn't played any team in Top 25. They have Strength of Schedule Rank at 250 and there RPI is 40 and that is because they are undefeated at 10-0. The toughest team by RPI Ranking was Oral Roberts at 61 and Tulsa at 60. Memphis will probably be there toughest team in the OOC and they have an RPI at 136 with a record at 8-3.

I've got them going 11-7 in the SEC with a favorable schedule. They get Tennessee, Miss. State, UGA, Alabama, and Mizzou twice. Then they play Auburn, Arkansas, Ole Miss, and A&M on the road and UK, Florida, Vandy, and LSU at home. They've got a little talent and a solid head coach.

I guess one good half against good competition is one more half than South Carolina has played. As far as the red birds go at least they have Pitino and it's reasonable to think they could be good. South Carolina doesn't have that luxury.

Because playing good teams takes investment, and they don't want to go that down there. You can pay D2 teams a lot less to come and play than they could a Sun belt or God forbid a P5 team. That's money they can use to buy Will Muschamp a nice leather couch for his office instead.

They have 2 big Europeans that can give weak 7 footers some trouble. (hint) They also (bigs) can hit the occasional three like most Europeans. As it stands today, our guards would need to and can dominate.
Frank Martin is not that bad.

Ease up on throwing daggers at South Carolina. They certainly are good enough to beat us in Columbia. Frank is building that program, and I'm glad to see it.

Absolutely they can beat us. The've beaten Depaul, Drexel, Clemson, Tulsa, and St. John's. We've lost to worse SC teams than this one...and they're playing us at home.

I'd throw in Hofstra to the list above since IMO they're better than DePaul, Drexel and St. John's and may be better then Clemson. Hofstra did beat Florida State who is supposed to be better than Clemson this season. I see the Vanderbilt game as a potential big one for South Carolina. Vandy has a good team, but they've lost to all four of the best teams on their schedule up to this point (KU, Purdue, Baylor, Dayton).

South Carolina has played a better schedule than UL, and it's not really close. Excellent point. And South Carolina at least tried to schedule some "name" teams, it's not their fault that those teams aren't good (e.g. St. John's, Clemson, South Florida, Memphis).

True they haven't really played any decent teams, but at least they have taken care of business and won all their games. Most other SEC teams always seem to lose a few early ones to the Eastern Washington's and the Fairleigh Dickinson's of the world, so at least they are beating the teams they're supposed to beat.

They're doing exactly what they need to do in order to change the perception of their program. I knew this would be 'their year' to turn it around and have told several SC friends. They'll definitely make the NiT this year and possibly have an outside shot at the NCAAT

I think they make the NCAA tourney with ease. They've taken care of business on their OOC schedule and now probably just need to do a bit better than .500 in SEC to get in.
