USAToday: Ranking SEC Coaches by Job Security

I don't think stoops should be that low. just the old negative thinking about our football program. we have to change the mind set against us on the football field.:boxing:

Who should he be ahead of on that list? Not like he is 13th or 14th. Maybe FL's coach, but he is a first year coach so he has a longer rope so to speak.

I disagree.

How many schools would give their coach another season if they went 2-9??

Auburn and Ole Miss both would fire their coach, I'd imagine Sumlin would be gone, Saban would be squirming as would Butch Jones.
Stoops would be just fine, you would have the most vocal group stating he should go (media) but more level headed fans know that our talent is young and our lines need help and help is on the way.
Stoops is establishing a foundation for UK to be a good program, a lasting program and I'd like to see him be given the opportunity to shine.
If he was bringing in low grade recruits then I'd be hollering the loudest in getting him outta here. But I can see the horizon with Stoops heading the ship.

Yeah, if we go 2-10 this year I think there would be a hell of a lot of criticism towards Stoops, no matter what you say. Would he be fired? No, but he would be pretty much on a get to a bowl game or start to feel serious heat after losing his last 6 in 2014 and 10/12 in 2015. Some would start to say...yeah he can recruit, but he can't coach them up. I know our fanbase, so I knwo that is true. Anything less than 4 wins with this year's schedule would be shocking...although I get you are just doing a hypothetical.

And no, I seriously doubt Auburn and Ole Miss would not fire their coaches after this season if they had one awful season. That happens to most programs...but honestly is not realistic for any of them, even UK, as I mentioned earlier.

Auburn fired their coach in the honey moon after winning a title.
Ole Miss fired a very good coach In Cutcliffe who took them to 5 straight winning seasons for the first time in history and the posted a 4-7 season and he was fired. Who would of thought that? That might of been the year we lost to them and I knew we were going to beat them as they were horrible. They also fired Nutt after having 2 years of disapointing results. 4 wins and then 2 wins. I think Nutt was fired in the middle of the year and rode out the season.
LSU is already complaining about Miles, he will be out if he posts a bad year.

SEC is a cut throat league.

I think that's a reasonable position for Stoops. Improved recruiting, more talent across the board, and upgraded facilities are all great and necessary, but the bottom line is winning. He and the team came so close to perhaps winning 7 last year, but didn't. If they win 5 or less this year then I think Stoops will move down that list. I'm not suggesting he should be let go if that happens, but if it does there will be some who start to question him. Like the article said, he really needs to get to at least 6-7 this year. I'm absolutely certain no one knows that better than he does.

What we do going forward is way more important to Stoops be retained down the road than whether last year, his 2nd year, we were 2-10 or 8-4. This is just now mainly his team.

If Stoops wasn't recruiting like he has been, then I could see his seat being warmer....but as it sits now his seat is rather room temperature. He went from 2 wins to 5 wins....so his wins are trending up.....and he's recruited better ranked classes than the program has ever had......and the media is actually talking about how things are moving upward. Why would he be higher?

AU fired a head coach 2 season after winning a NC, tried to hire Petrino behind a coach who went 14-0 a couple years before. Gus has another 5 loss season after all the hype he is getting he better be looking. They are on him now because he is recruiting at the level they think he should for the 16 class.

It' really hard to see any coach on this list that's on the hot seat right now. Vandy & Florida coaches are too new to be on the hot seat. As far as veteran coaches go, Malzahn should be near the bottom. Auby had a losing conference record and only won 8 games last year - that won't get it for long. If the CATS knock them off in the early Thursday night match up the heat is going to be turned up.

Sumerlin - are they crazy? with that offense of his I can't see that. Now that he has Chavin as the DC they have the whole package.

Spurrier will retire before he's ever fired.

I think the Mad Hatter will redeem himself this year if not it could get a little warm there.

Reich has come close lately, but needs to avoid the near misses in the future. Georgia should win the East this year which will make his job safe again.

Don't forget Dan Mullen won his first six a couple years ago and lost his last six. He's done well since with experience, coaching and recruiting.

CMS is on his way to similar or better results. Remember, coaches at UF, AU, UGA, Alabama, LSU for example are not only expected to win, but fill those 90,000-100,000 plus stadiums that help finance their athletic programs and contribute to academics.
