Upcoming Season Intrigues Me Probably More Than Any Other

We don't have any superstars coming in, at least so far (Bamba?). Great players/kids, but it's been said they're a little below the talent level we've been accustomed too. I think (hope) this team can likely become the total TEAM in concept. In the past, we've had great athletes who could overcome shortcomings of the team in general but may have been dependent on isolating and one-on-one execution. This team may not have that ability, forcing them to depend on each other more - which could be GREAT for being a complete package team!

Yep. This is the year where you will see the most balanced scoring up and down the roster since the platoon squad. Imo it will be built exclusively for defense

2017 is about building a strong foundation for 2018. having a core group return and add in some freaking talented dudes in 2018 to have a deep and talented team with some experience. 2018 will be the year for us.

There is always some different angle or new twist to Cal's next class.This one has a chance to play out really well,but it seems the deeper(time wise) we get into OAD the more difficult it is project if all these guys are what we think they are and what they are billed to be

Once the roster is finalized, I will have a more clear opinion on next year. As of right now, I'm just going with the flow.

If we don't add Bamba and Bam does not return, next year will be rough IMO. In that scenario, it will all be about building for '18-'19 season.

If we add Bamba or Bam returns, and we add one of Smith and Baker, and that Johnson transfer (who I believe we should most definitely go after), color me extremely excited for next year.

I won't speculate about what to expect yet, but I have a really good feeling about this group. Top to bottom for all positions they are great. If we add Bamba/Knox or both we are gold. Lots of movin and shakin left to play out before we know enough to make predictions.

I posted a few weeks back that the UK fans who are always whining about Cal's OAD philosophy would get their wish in 17-18, and would whine this time when the team's ceiling is the Sweet 16. The two years after next year could be really special. So, true fans need to commit to a longer view than we've had since 2010.

Easier said than done for most of these "fans". They just like to be contrarians. You're right, next year we will hear enough whining about not having any "superstars".

This year's team really set a great example on and off the court for next years kids. And they speak very positively about their decision to come here and their experiences here. We'll race the horse we brung next season, as always, and it'll be fun for those with realistic expectations.

Cal's bridge years between buildups of talent (2010, 2012, 2015, 2017) that usually come in roughly 2-3 periods are the reason we've become so spoiled, in my opinion. Most times throughout our history we would be a little forgiving of a non-contending season when it follows a team thats a favorite to win.

It's just crazy that this team will have a chance to contend after all the personnel we're gonna lose from 2017. If we somehow get Bamba and a shooter I think we are right back in the conversation.
