I certainly did not question your loyalty based on your knowledge of history but as to why you felt the need to mention Rupp's National Title/Final 4 Drought compared to Dean Smith with 2 National Championships compared to Adolph Rupp's 4 in the same profession. Dean Smith may have appeared in more Final 4's, great! National Championships are what means the most to a lot of fans. Rupp also won the NIT which at the time, the NCAA Tournament did not exist until a year later. The NIT still remained relevant for awhile after as there was much to be gained by the media exposure of playing in New York City.
Smith's overall record is 13-3 against UK but he was 5-2 vs an aging Adolph Rupp in the twilight of his career. Only 11 of Smith's 36 years coaching was Rupp actively a coach in the game. Smith finished with only 3 more wins than Rupp had despite all of those number of even recent great NBA players, Vince Carter to this day still playing. Sure we have had our fair share of great players, no need to inform me on that.
When Adolph Rupp retired, if you won Conference/NCAA Titles, you played at most 30 games. There were a possibility of 40 games played if you won Conference/NCAA Title by the time Dean Smith retired. Both won Conference Tournaments 13 times. Adolph won Regular Season Conference Championships 27 times, 1 from the previous years in the SoCon, compared to Dean's 17 ACC. Won Coach of the year 5 to Dean's 4.
