UNC football was in the pit 4 years ago and on probation. They went out and hired Fedora who was a proven HC at Southern Miss. They are now 11-1 and in the ACC championship. I get it that the ACC isn't the best conference but the contrast with our last 2 hires is remarkable. I think it is the rare coordinator who can jump into a P5 HC gig and be successful. The organizational requirements are more difficult than the coaching skills needed.
I still think Stoops can make it but if UK makes a coaching change in the next couple of years I hope we hire a guy who was a HC at some level even if he is a retread. In fact, a guy who was successful for a few years in the SEC or ACC and fizzled may be better.
