UL's Punishment; What Do You Hope it is?

This is far worse than what UK "supposedly did" for with the FedEx package and Eddie Sutton. Not sure it's possible to ban them from TV like UK had to endure. But AT LEAST a 3 year post season ban. Reduction in scholarships. 5 years probation. If it's found out that RP is indeed Coach 2, then death penalty for 1-2 seasons.

Lifetime ban for Pitino. Some SEVERE scholarship reductions over a 4 or 5 year probation. Severe limitations on off campus and on campus recruiting. Three year post-season ban. Influences appeals committee to reject appeal and bring down the 2012 and 2013 banners.

This seems fair. This whole thing is made even worse considering they're already on probation.

They need 3 years post season bans. Severe scholarship reductions no basketball for one year. Banners fall. Recruiting limitations for 3-5 years.

Should get a TV ban for two years but won't happen.

Louisville needs their department shut down FOR them, and they need time to fix their issues and not worry about competing.

Nothing but the death penalty will do for me. They were already on probation for the most disgusting scandal in college sports history and they decided to pay $100k for a recruit while on probation. That's the definition of the death penalty and that's what UL deserves. Plus UL is the reason why the NBA hasn't put a team here and the YUM center debt is going to fall on tax payers. I hope UL's program is shut down and they never recover!

Well with all of the things that have happened the last 3 or 4 years they have to do something to get UL's attention since they are still willingly breaking the rules. Even before their punishment for stripper gate has been handed down the meter was still running. Kentucky was threatened with the death penalty when few allegations were actually proven and their punishment was pretty severe. All things combined I'd say the death penalty is a very real possibility, there are just too many serious violations and misconduct going on there, it's time to shut it down.

Someone mentioned that Duke has been feasting on UNC's recruiting and grabbing guys like Giles out from under them.. Let's get their punishment out of the way (hopefully a good one) and let them get back to beating up Duke 3 games a year and on the recruiting trail..

only in Louisville would the man brought in to bring UK up from the probation ashes be the same man that is going to put them in a deeper hole.

He's their Eddie Sutton. And our Manchurian Candidate.

For the NCAA's benefit (I know I threw up in my mouth just now) it has to be very severe. They are going to have to justify why not the death penalty. They paid for hookers for minors. Good lord. Now they appear to be guilty of another major violation. How does the NCAA hold it together if they do not absolutely go scorched earth here?

I don't wish this on anyone but I am looking at how does college basketball as we know it move forward if the NCAA doesn't hammer UNC and all but destroy UL? And if they don't what does that mean for the rest of the institutions and college sports going forward? I fear that if the NCAA is not going to enforce the rules, why not just go the club system route like Europe will be the talking point.

I can't imagine the death penalty. Penn St didn't get the death penalty. Baylor didn't get the death penalty.

I don't see why the T.V. ban would be off the table. The ACC has more than enough top teams to keep T.V. revenue up. If they don't use the death penalty in this case no reason to even keep it as a threat. Always thought the banners were coming down anyway, should have heard from the NCAA already on that situation but I guess I don't know the timeline for all that.

The NCAA needs a scapegoat in this mess. What they did in the past is irrelevant. College basketball )the ncaa's cash cow) is being made a joke all over national media and the Feds are involved.

The death penalty (today's version) is squarely on the table.

i honestly think the athletic department would benefit from the basketball program being shut down for a little while....I know it hurts them monetarily right now but it would actually give them a chance to regroup, reorganize, put in more checks and balances, find the right coach, and then slowly build their program back up....so at minimum several years post season ban, while they reorganize and find a good coaching staff (i vote clappy and BCG)

I don't believe what Louisville did is worse than what the Filth in NC relative to college basketball but its close. I've advocated expunging NC from the record for each year they cheated. I've also advocated that NC should be invited back to division 1 college basketball after a decade hiatus.

In keeping with that, I believe obliterating Louisville's record of participation for the years where they cheated would appropriate. Also, they should be separated from the NCAA for a period of 5 years.

This sort of thing cannot be allowed to stand.

yea I don't see it. The NCAA is probably looking at trying to figure out how to salvage the product , not hasten its demise even a rogue program like UL. Pitino is gone, Jurich is gone - the face of Louisville basketball is gone and they'll end up with Tom Crean for a year, an arena they can't keep solvent and millions of dollars lost both at the University and in the community while they are mired in probation for the next 5 years and another 3 years of recovery. Petrino will bolt to a bigger school - any school just to get out of that mess. There are some things worse than the death penalty.

If the President/Board are smart, they call the NCAA right away and drop the appeal. Don't waste another penny on it. Accept all the NCAA gave you for the hooker scandal AND whatever they will give you for this current scandal. Appealing anything to the NCAA is throwing gasoline on a fire at this point.

death penalty

Completely shutdown the University.
Heavily fine all their boosters and tie them up in court for years.
Sell all the University's assets and split them evenly throughout the others in the state.
Finally, all season ticket holders are are placed on the sexual offenders registry just to make a point.

The drama is actually more entertaining than the punishment.

I would like to see them have to change their jerseys to read "University 6", and any other number of creative things that will always serve as a reminder of their corruption.

Look, that place is a joke. Lots of people cheat. Get caught. Get punished. Move along.

That place just denies, denies, denies.

If Rick really is Coach 2, that text he sent Meiners is even more embarrassing than it was the moment he sent it.

Somebody at the FBI was probably reading that text on a monitor shortly after he sent it.

Just stop.

And that statement release by his lawyer, about "third parties."

This truly is the case of a hit dog barking.

I agree with almost everything in here. The one change I would make is to remove the "no basketball for one year." provision. I want to watch UofL be terrible for a year. I don't want them to sit out. I want to watch them play in empty arenas with an empty space were their 2012 and 2013 banners used to hang. I want their shame and humiliation on constant public display.
