Ulis has expressed to Cal that he wants Briscoe to start beside him in the line up. Which means that we will almost certainly be going with a 3 guard line up of Ulis, Briscoe, and Murray, along with Poy (if healthy) and Skal. Murray will not be coming off the bench. Not ground breaking as this is what most expected. Seems that Ulis and Briscoe really get along well with each other and is a good vote of confidence for Briscoe.

Just because Ullis wants this does not mean it will happen. Cal will play who he wants.
It will happen. Cal has given the keys to Ulis and this is his team. He said so in the past. If Ulis wants Briscoe to start with him because he thinks it gives them the best chance/chemistry to win, it will happen.

That fine with me.

You can't teach chemistry. Obviously it's Cals team but his general is making a request that he feels gives him and the rest of the team a better chance at success. Cal is going to listen very well. Next to Cal, Ulis opinion is highest. Literally a thunder and lightning combo with power and speed

No offense, but players need to play and let the staff handle who plays how many minutes.

I doubt the other guards on the team are appreciative of such comments.
lol. The best coaches get the input from the best players on the court. Our leader is Tyler. He is the quarterback of this team. If he has a great connection with another one of his players, which he believes will benefit the team, he will come to the coach and let him know how he feels. It would be odd if Cal didn't ask the starting PG who he feels most comfortable with. Not too difficult to comprehend. Tyler isn't telling Cal how many minutes other players should play.

At the very least, such comments should be made in private to the coach.

LOL This is not an official UK account. Don't believe everything you read on the internet.

I don't think it was anything more than, "Yeah, I think Briscoe should start", or "Yeah, I am comfortable playing beside Briscoe."
You're probably right... would like to see a transcript of the exact quote. These idiot bloggers and writers can twist innocuous comments or even outright embellish on what was actually said.

I'd be surprised if Cal didn't experiment early in the season with the lineup. I'd be very surprised if Tyler and Briscoe don't get the start down the stretch though.

Ulis retweeted it himself so maybe there is something to it. And anyone trying to make it out like Ulis is out of place for saying this is a fool. There's a reason Cal was quoted after the season telling Tyler he would build a team around him.

I agree, and what was the context of this comment? It was not quoted.
However, your previous posts are playing it up to be more than that.

Cal is going to start who he wants. Fortunately for Ulis most agree that is Ulis, Murray, Poy, Skal and BRISCOE.

Offensively, that is most likely the best move.

But the question is on defense and rebounding the ball. Briscoe and Murray are going to have to prove that they can defend the way Cal wants them to and they will have to rebound well. If they rebound, then I think we are good. Cal knows how to teach defense, so I think that will be fine.

In the end, Cal will play his best players most of the minutes, and that should mean Ulis, Briscoe, Murray, Poythress, and Labissiere playing at the same time quite a bit.

I especially expect to see that lineup late in games. Best shooting lineup. They just have to rebound.

I prefer that their time be staggered so that we always have a fresh elite pg on the floor , wear teams down even more .

iPhone trollin' me

Might not be a bad idea to bring Briscoe off the bench and start another big. It would be better for rebounding and defense.

Spacing might be an issue on offense with Poythress at the 3.

Or we might start Mulder at the 3 and then shooting would not be a problem. Might not help rebounding, though.

We could go more traditional with Matthews at the 3. Might be the happy medium.

If these guys are as good as we all think they are, then we should see a lot of different combinations. Should be fun to watch how it all sorts out.

I still think Ulis, Briscoe, Murray, Poythress, and Labissiere close out most tight games.

Fine by me-
Ulis
Briscoe
Murray
Poythress
Skal

When you need shooting, switch Briscoe and Mulder. Defense put Matthews there instead. Shoot, they could even go 4 guards from time to time with Matthews at the 4 if needed.

You're the fool.

Read MdWIldcat55's post.

If Ulis said anything of the sort (and who knows?) I have no problem with him saying it to Cal.

I DO have a problem with him -- or Cal -- saying it to anyone else, or publicly acknowledging it.

There are other kids on that team busting their asses with hopes of starting -- Hawkins, Matthews, Mulder, Murray for example. If Ulis wants to be the leader of the team, he has to be above joining a clique with Briscoe or anyone else. Going to Cal and saying, 'Coach, me and Isaiah really click out there. We can do some special things together" is one thing. Making that kind of statement known publicly could be poisonous for team unity.
^ This. ^

This is nonsense. Practice does not start until October. Cal knows what he is doing and can field a linup just fine. Relax Francis!

So many people looking too much into this and taking things too seriously, haha. Ulis is a very smart player, and respects Cal more than anything. He told Cal his opinion, but will be fine with whatever Cal chooses. Plus, what if Cal is sort of leaning that way already anyway?

Forming cliques? Seriously? Hahaha

Both of those guys will play 30 minutes a game, with a lot of those minutes at the same time. Sounds like they enjoy playing together, which is great.

If anything, seems like Ulis could be trying to dispel the notion that Briscoe needs to be a backup, or is somehow third fiddle to Ulis and Murray.

Ulis is a leader, and I would say that a vote of confidence for Briscoe will be good for team chemistry, and far from poisonous.

This is main thing some seem to missing. When Briscoe first committed all we heard from the media, outside fans, etc... is that Briscoe is such a ball dominant guard, that he and Ulis may not be able to coexist on the floor together, and that it might cause some chemistry problems. This being expressed by Ulis puts all that to rest.
