Ulis, Murray Say They'll Be Harder on Teammates Going Forward

I know the front court was atrocious last night, but has Murray been tracking his own play?

He's had long ass stretches of suck and he can't guard my grandma. He pads his stats when it doesn't matter, almost single-handedly letting UL back in the game.

The only player on this team that has any right to talk is Tyler.

I agree that Ulis is the one who should be doing the talking. Even at that though, this is a little worrisome. Our frontcourt guys are pretty tame and mild mannered, it'll be interesting to see how they'd respond to that on top of all they get from Cal. It's looking like these next few games could make or break this team. I'm just glad we still have time til March to try and patch up these holes.

It is a bit sad that our frontcourt consists of a senior and two juniors, yet we have a freshman and sophomore guard being the two saying we need to be hard on our teammates. This team could really use a senior Darius Miller type.

The upper classmen aren't leading the team. They aren't bad ball players, they just tend to shrink in the limelight.

It's true there has been stretches where Murray has sucked but I don't think we can say he hasn't put it all out there. To me he works his ass off regardless of how he is playing. Only Ulis and Murray can lay claim to that IMO

Murray being cold in the First Half has directly led to all three losses. Sometimes shots don't fall, but he has to share a fair amount of blame for these losses.

First half misses by one player NEVER cost a team a game.

I'd recommend Google prior to posting something that is this easily debunked.

vs OSU Murray hit 57% of his shots, including 7 of 9 from 3. Briscoe and Skal went 2 for 16, Tyler 4 for 12.

vs LSU Murray hit 53% of his shots, including 2 for 5 from 3. Briscoe and Lee went 2 for 8, Briscoe and Poy go 1-10 from the FT line.

Only in the UCLA game did Murray have poor FG% numbers, and still hit 5 3's. Ulis and Poythress went 3 for 18 that game with only one 3 pointer.

To complain about Murray on this team with EVERY other player doing worse is laughable.

His lack of shooting is the least of it. He isn't in HS any longer. That behind the back dribble that he loses the ball on consistently has got to go!

Again, can't fault guys like Murray and Briscoe who may be making some mistakes. They are giving it 100% and doing plenty of other things well. I'm not sure why people continue to lump them into the same group as Skal and Poythress. It's like, 1 student is having a tough time with math, while the other student is failing everything.

I hope Ulis and Murray make this their team. Maybe Skal and Poythress don't care to win, but now they can answer to their own freaking team.

It'll be interesting to see how this progresses. I'm 100% behind Ulis and anyone else taking a stand, even if they say we have to cut a man loose.

What game you watching? Murray still has more to learn but he is Tyler's equal when it comes to leaving it all on the court. He might have to improve defensively but he busts his ass on both ends. And these meaningless points you talk about...I think he just decides to take over when we are in funk.
No one should say jack shit about how hard Murray plays.

Good to hear. But as of right now, this team is not a good road team. Every road game will be a struggle for them IMO. At least for now......

He has had stretches where he plays out of control and turns the ball over way too often. But if nothing else, when that happens it is because he is pouring in every ounce of energy into his play. Overall, I will take a Jamal Murray on my team any day of the week.

I love Murray and I would not trade him for any guard in the country, but I don't think there is any question he has struggled in the first half of several games this year. If he hits 2 threes in the first half of any of the losses it is a 4 or 5 point game at the half rather than 10. It is pretty obvious that he and Ulis are the only real scoring options we have and if he is cold we are in trouble.

This team has a ton of players who have niche skills. UK actually has a nice horde of depth. The problem is too many times, guys get into situations that are above what they can do or outside of their comfort zone.

They can talk all they want, somebody has to listen. If you think about it, Lee has given us what we expected from him(maybe a little more) how much more is there in the well. Alex has been what he has been for all the time he has been here, he runs hot and cold, that is what he does. Willis is a slightly below average role player, he does a couple of things o.k. but everything else below the level we need. Skal is not who or where we thought he would be, he is not going to get there this year. Humphries is not a Cal type of player yet, he may be one day but that day is way down the road if he stays here. Wynyard, who knows he isn't the answer at this time, he doesn't fit the mold of the typical Cal player

Mulder was an insurance policy if we didn't get anyone else, if Murray hadn't shown up where would we be.

Cal pulled this team together out of thin air, we are lucky to be 11-3, the real question is collectively how bad do these guys want to win each individual game.

Duke, UL and Ole Miss vs UCLA ,Ohio St LSU a line from Butch and Sundance comes to mind "who the hell are those guys"

I think murray is a good player, he obviously knows how to play...I just think he's trying to do too much.

I'm glad they are stepping up...I think the big problems they have is a lack of trust with one anothrr

Yes, after the game was basically over or UK was firmly behind.

Doesn't matter if it's first half or second half, he's streaky on offense and not good on defense. I get that his effort is there, but I would understand Poy or Lee pointing a finger back at him.

Can't fault his effort but Murray almost gave up a triple double last night on defense. They all need work.

To see the team play last night after the great win at home vs. Ole Miss was disappointing. Either Ole Miss was horrible at 10-2 or UK was playing like a top 5 team. I do know one thing is that Defense did step up big time vs. Ole Miss and was terrible vs. LSU. I thought after seeing the Ole Miss game that this team finally goit it on the Defense and we had turned the corner after the Ole Miss game. Murray usually has great stats in nearly scoring 20ppg and 5 or 6 rpg. Him and Ulis are always around the 20ppg and I thought Murray had stepped up his game on Defense and turnovers vs. Ole Miss. He was still 9 of 16 and 2 of 5 from 3 last night for 21 points. Sometimes his defense and turnovers needs work but you can't fault Murray if he is off in the 1st half when he finishes the game at 21 points. Our problem is underneath and we don't have a scorer like we did last year with Towns, Lyles and WCS.
