Ulis best UK pure point guard since...

Best since Wall. Wall's been the best we've had IMO.

However... I've never looked forward to any of our guys playing in the pros more than I do for Ulis. I'm chomping at the bit to watch him put up numbers in the NBA.

Who would you say?
Off the top of my head and I know I am about to get killed but I am say Ulis at this point in time. Because....I think Ulis has a higher points scored than Wall and all else being equal. Am I right of the average points scored?

Wall also had probably the most talented UK team on the floor with him

I'd rate Wall #1, but Tyler is dominating right now. Impossible to guard and he sliced Vandy up. 20 points plus in 6 of last 8. Ulis and Murray are the best backcourt in the county right now. Go Big Blue!!

I hope you meant any point guard.
If we're talking about who ended up being the best, who are you taking over him? I understand people like to be stubborn about not counting what they did outside of their time here's, but still.

I don't know but he has supplanted Little Louie as my favorite small guard. Too many great guards over the years to rank them properly.

Wall obviously had more physical ability. Some of the things he did on the court were pure freakshow, athletic beyond compare. It's almost unfair to compare the two. Wall was a human fast break, Ulis is more of a floor general. Wall excelled by altering the geometry of the court with elite athleticism; Ulis excels by subtly taking advantage of the talent around him and the weaknesses of the defense.

I remember at the beginning of the season I had 3 or 4 people telling me Macey was better than Ulis.

[eyeroll]

I don't care about pro-potential, or athleticism. Nor do I think TEAM outcome is the sole factor in who'se the best PG at UK.
I really think you could make an argument for Wall, or Knight, or Ulis. It's a toss of the coin. They all 3 were great, but also had blemishes. Wall couldn't shoot, Ulis is short, and Knight not as good a defender. I might take Ulis over both.

As far as PURE Point Guard goes, I'd say he's in the line with Rondo and Wall.

I think a lot of people forget Rondo because Tubby Ball did not highlight his strengths as an all around player..if Cal had coached Rondo :scream:

Ulis is the better pure point gaurd than wall.. Wall had the speed but ulis is a facilitator/ floor general..

I love Tyler's game but I would put Anthony Epps right up there. Oh! Wayne Tuner had a few rings. Kyle Macy was not bad and had a pro career and NCAA championship. Rex Chapman maybe? Dirk was pretty athletic. Ralph Beard? Tyler to even be in this conversation is quite a testament to his abilities.

Ulis gets the advantage of a sophomore season in this debate as well. Thus, I look at what Wall did in his rookie season in the NBA (aka his sophomore season). Then I just SMH this is even a debate.

Yeah, I'd say since John Wall. And that's not a sleight to Andrew Harrison, who was an excellent college pg, or Marquis Teague who led the team to a title, or to Brandon Knight who is probably more a combo guard or shooting guard. But Ulis does things on the court, even at 5-9 that those guys didn't do. And the thing he has is the entire package. Even Wall wasn't a good shooter outside about 10-12 feet. Wall was just so physically and athletically dominant, he would go through and over people. Rondo couldn't shoot the ball at all. Teague just isn't as good, but Teague decided to start shooting the 3 when the NCAAT started that season. Andrew couldn't shoot the ball either, and he also just wasn't as crafty. Knight was a volume shooter and scoring guard, not a true point guard in my opinion. I'd love to have him anytime, though. Give me Ulis at pg and Knight at sg all day.

Depends on what you consider a "pure" point. I'd say the most recent guy better than Ulis to play that spot was Brandon Knight, but then Knight played more as a sg/pt combo style guard than a pure point.

I hope IU has a decent enough season to make the NCAA tourney, then get beat by UK. Ulis leads all scorers, and turns the ball over maybe only once max. Bet Dan Dakich would love that!
