That doesnt sound like much. 2.5 million a year? And it's already in hock for how much? Does U of L want it to fail?

UL is also giving up about 48 dates that it planned to use the arena. Most of those coming from their women's volleyball team who will play their games elsewhere. Those dates can be filled with more profitable events for the arena.

That's nothing compared to the loss of their ability to reject events during their priority period. Requests must now be considered on a commercially reasonable basis. Which means they won't be able to reject large events because they want to have men's or women's basketball practice.

Seems like this should open the door to having an nba team.

I hope that also means that UK can play a game at the Yum if it wants. It really got under Turtleneck's/Pitino's skin when we were playing in their arena.

If UL still gets most of the profits from the boxes and concessions even if their teams are not playing, I say forget playing there and lining the pockets of that corrupt university.

Sounds like Jurich and his minions are balking at agreeing to this new Lease.

UofL Board of Trustees refusing to accept new deal due to their being a collection of whining little bitches.

I guess tommy tneck will now move 'em back to cheetum hall.

So, the BOT eventually voted to accept the new lease after much crying Jurich having the audacity to whine that they will be paying more money than UK does for their lease.

Jurich tries to ambush the administration at the board meeting. He failed by just one vote.

I haven't seen the text of this amendment anywhere. Based on how Jurich is being all Mr. Stompyfoot, I'm guessing there is more to it than just the rent increase.

Is anyone at UL responsible for anything? Everyone is a victim over there. Reading these articles about Jurich crying about this is hilarious.

Turtleneck got a reality check today..bet his big fat ass is sore..

On a related note, please enjoy the Courier-Journal's idiotic piece on why UL is paying more per year at YUM than UK does at Rupp.

It's one thing to focus on the numbers in the deal, it's a wholly other to ignore one is a BRAND NEW ARENA vs. an OLD ARENA.

Good lord. This is why the newspaper business is being flushed down the toilet. They refuse to handle the digital age, they fire all the good writers and then they hire cheap crappy hacks to pick things up.

"Welcome to Rupp Arena. Our shit is paid for."

Looks like UL went from "most profitable" to skid row in no time flat. Look at this quote from the Turtleneck in the WDRB story:

Jurich said “everything is on the table,” including higher ticket fees for basketball fans and charging for sports that have had free admission, to come up with the additional money.

How full of shit is this guy?

UofL said it isn't their fault that the Yum center is failing. They said it is because of the economic issues from 2008-2009 of the country.

It all goes back to the politics of the time. Everyone agrees/agreed that Freedom Hall was/is a dump. UL wanted and deserved something nicer.
The biggest thing was that Ernie Fletcher wanted (D) votes in Louisville at what ever cost.
The city wanted a showplace downtown and picked the most visible but most expensive site. Nothing but a municipal project could be developed on the site because of environmental concerns.
UL played hardball and got a sweetheart deal by negotiating with themselves.
As it is UL skims all the profits while the Arena Authority barely pays the interest on the bonds.

What gets me is their fans are blaming the State for unrealized TIF projections not living up to their forecasts. Who supplied those TIF numbers......why it was the University of Louisville's Economics Dept. Now it's on the taxpayers. Why didn't they get an independent experienced firm to supply such important information? Won't UL still have a goldmine even with paying an additional 2.5 million extra per year? They are a tenant and make millions?

I'd much rather watch a game at freedom hall than the glorified airport (Yum center)
