While the annual UT loss was rough, thoughts on what needs to occur for a UK victory on the road?

For those who recall or have easy access to the games, what were the key differences in our defense shutting out MSU in 2020, then turning into $#i^ through a goose in 2021 then back to holding them to only 17 points last year? Of course, personnel and location are key variables but Coach White and Stoops were constants.

No wildcat formation
Agree, when I saw those formations I cringed. Not that RD couldn't execute but simply that we could not establish any sort of run game against UT up to those points. I mean, why go to a play where there is a 95% chance there is a run without the benefit of a QB exchange or play action option? UT played their run defense to a T.

Consistent play by the offense for a 2nd game in a row.

Defense has to tackle better and show some swagger and pride.

32.8 per game n sec play so far is embarrassing. Even if you remove uga and Florida at opposite ends for worst and best games it's still 33 per game.

To me it boils down to MSU has really dropped down and the new coach can't coach his air raid nearly as good and they don't have personnel to switch schemes.

- Will Rogers usually laps the conference in passing...and today he's 12th out of 14 QBs (and if not for Texas AM QB injury he'd be only above Auburn QB).
- Defense is a bit below average.

So play a clean game (don't turn the ball over a ton). MSU will struggle to score 20 pts...so don't help them. And if UK can move the ball and offense travels from last game to this game...we'll put up high 20-30+ pts and our defense fits them well

UK - 25
MSU 17

Rogers has been hurt, has missed at least their last 2 games. Don't know his status this week. They've gone away from Leach's O which Rogers played even in HS and he's struggled with the new system.

Current QB is ex-Vandy Mike Wright who had a big game vs UK at CWS last year. He's an adequate passer, excellent runner can run rings around Melton. They also have a couple of capable RBs/WRs. Don't be fooled, given UK's defensive struggles and playing at night this is an extremely dangerous game for UK. Miss St is due to play above its talent level, better hope it's not this weekend. What kind of focus and motivation will UK have?

I would have tolerated it more if David handed it off on the read knowing the entire UT D was keying on Davis and ready for the keep. At least then it would have been a chess move/trick play-ish using UTs anticipation and sell out against them

Maybe we practice our defense to shut down their strength. Bama made UT throw the ball and took away the run. We did the exact opposite. WTH are you doing?

If we come out and get behind right off the bat, it will be tough to win this game. we never play well down there and we just lost a tough game, and the pressure is building. If we can't stop their run game, we will lose and their QB hurt us last year with his running ability with Vandy. It's a hard place to win a game and they need a win as bad as we do, I'm not that optimistic that we win this game.

Definitely don't want to get behind.
MSU went into Fayetteville and kept the Hogs out of the end zone the entire game.

This. Wright and there is also a true freshman who folks down there have been wanting to see get some snaps.

One of the talking heads said the other day, “Stoops has never won a SEC West game on the road”. Is that true? If so,that’s sad.

he has not. That being said, they just are not good at all this season. It would be a demoralizing loss.

You can never say a team WILL win when it cant tackle, and cant defend against the pass. To win Saturday those things MUST change

The problem is, you never know how a Stoops team will respond from week to week...and that's a pretty big problem. Kentucky should win this game, but Stoops has been downright awful (not to mention winless) in Starkville and everywhere else on the road in the SEC West. We could eke out a win, or we could show up flat and continue the patented Mark Stoops mid-season slide. Neither of those scenarios would surprise me.

Mississippi State has no doubt been paying attention and will be foaming at the mouth for this win. They see Kentucky as a vulnerable team and an opportunity for victory.

If I had to guess - it will be a close, hard fought game in the end. Kentucky will allow the crowd to be involved from the beginning, by doing Kentucky things. Kentucky will probably make a stupid mistake and lose, or one facet of the game will have another meltdown. Either way, there is not much here to predict a UK win with any confidence.

All remaining teams can beat us. Alabama will likely crush us in embarrassing fashion. We will see if we've got one more win in us. Two would be nice, three is a most likely a pipe dream.

If there is such a thing as "complimentary football", our football team hasn't accomplished that yet this season. Early in the season, our running game was ripping because our early opponents didn't have the LBs to stop Ray Davis. By mid-September, our defense was playing well and climbing the SEC stat hierarchy. Then along comes TN and our passing game woke up. So our team can excel in every phase, but has not yet put together a game other than FL in which they excelled in multiple phases at the same time.

Against TN, Brad White tried to stop TN's offense with six men in the box. Conceptually, that was not a bad idea, as it reflected what Coach White learned last year about Heupel's uptempo offense. This allowed UK to commit 5 men to pass coverage. But White's defense did not execute. Way too many missed tackles and blown coverage assignments, not to mention a horrible sideline call by an official that inappropriately extended a TN drive that Coach White's defense had legally stopped. (That TD was the difference.) It should also be mentioned that Keeshawn Silver, Trevin Wallace, and Jalen Geiger were not healthy. But it was interesting that Devin Leary picked TN for, by far, his best passing game of the season.

If Leary and Dane Key continue to play as they did against TN, and if our defense gets healthy and plays better, we are looking at no worse than 8-5. I'm sure a lot of posters here won't believe that yet, but it is not a prediction. I am only saying this is the team's UPSIDE, if they play well in all phases for the rest of the season. But if they continue to play sloppy and miss tackles, then we won't get to 8 wins.

In any case, MS St (4-4) and SCar (2-6) are not very good. Say what you will, but we are better than both. Both are road games, but we should win them as long as our offense continues to play well. And I still say we will beat UL. I don't care to argue that now. I will just be content to watch the game.

What worries me is "Has Stoops and UK laid their annual Turd game yet"? Ga. was going to beat UK no matter what, Missouri better than we thought and UT well they in UK's head. UK has 3 games left and 2 of them are against teams UK should beat MSU and S.C., which will be The Turd game?

Why the hell is this always a night game. Arguable the two worst teams in the conference and a night game?

Arky plays in the west, we are about even with them, vandy ill give you. Of course they did beat us at home last year, so if they are so horrible what does that make us.

You said "In the conference" not the division. Yes, Vandy beat us last year and we beat them this year. They had a great RB that we now have. The only loss I am disappointed with this season was Missouri.

Losing to Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama coming into the season was expected by most logical people.
