Cats and Flyers are in a rain delay with UK leading 4-0 in the top of the 3rd. Shelby with a solo homer, White led off game with a double and scored. Cats with a run in the 1st and 3 in the 2nd inning.

Yet another rain delay, UK now up 4-1 bottom of the 5th inning. I guess you still have to have 5 complete innings to be an official game.

Back playing after another 1 hour plus delay. UK once led 4to 0' lead cut in half , now lead 4 to 2.

Probably the final straw, another delay bottom of the 8th, UK has scored a big insurance run, lead 5-3. With 2 outs and Shelby on 2nd, no rain, no lightning, game gets stopped. Automatic 30 minute delay, score will revert back to 4-3 most likely, a UK win.

Here's the game recap: LINK

UK made a correction after the game and said since the final half inning was not completed, the final score was 4-3. So no affect on the outcome but it does take away an RBI from Reks.

What thoughts do you guys have on throwing Lewis and Strecker in this game? Ideally you'd see a midweek game like this, against a 14-2 team I'd like to see some guys that don't pitch very often. Develop the roster and get some guys ready for next year or whatever. I know we need the game and the rain nasser it weird but I hope to see that approach tomorrow.

I think when Dayton closed the gap, Hendo saw that they need the win. Today's game is in jeopardy of being played due to storms. Logue is scheduled to start, Cats used Pop, Strecker, Lewis, Salow and Hjellie.

Well, not really. UK was leading 4-0 when they went to the first break. At that point we had to go to a new pitcher because of the break. Henderson then decided to pitch Strecker. I would have rather seen some other pitchers go right there. Strecker then pitched 2 innings before, I think, there was another break. He then brought in Lewis and it was Lewis that struggled. I don't mind Lewis as much because he's struggled some, but I would much rather have seen Strecker and Lewis stick to the weekend. We could throw Salow and Tillo and Dwyer, and Schaenzer and Smith. Guys that haven't worked and aren't as necessary on the weekend. Seems to me that Henderson is falling back on relying on 2-3 guys like he normally does rather than developing his entire bullpen. That being said, it very well could be that the rain changed his plans. I don't know.

Yeah I see your point. If they do play today, probably only Hjellie would be used. I guess Logue, Dwyer, Wilson, and Schaenzer would be available. Miami is a better team than Dayton, so if they do play, it could get interesting.

I don't know if they will play or not. However, it would not surprise me to see Henderson once again use Strecker or Lewis if he needed them in a tight game. I think that is one of his problems... he falls in love with certain pitchers and he wants to rely on them no matter what. While that helps to win games, it doesn't develop your team. The younger guys or the ones that are struggling need to get some work and need to get out of the slump. They especially need to do this against weak teams during the midweek. Look at someone like Bo Wilson. The guy is a senior who we thought we would rely on heavily this year. He struggled early on and because of it we barely see him pitch. Of course, when we decide to use him Henderson decided to use him against the likes of Louisville. So, that makes a whole lot of sense. I don't mind using the weekend bullpen against some of the better teams or if you get into a pretty tight game, but I think that we should try to use our other pen guys against these weaker midweek opponents. Just think how much better off we'd be if Bo Wilson was able to work his way back into being a reliable guy. That would be one more guy experienced we could fall back on during the weekend or during the post season.

Oddly enough this approach seems to be the exact opposite of what Henderson does with his hitting lineup. He sticks with the same guys regardless of how good or bad they are doing.
