UK used to be a career ending job....

^^ True. When Joker was HC I don't recall too many other programs beating down the door to hire his assistants. Disappointed that Coen's leaving, but it looks like he went through the process the right way, unlike a certain other assistant coach on the same side of the ball.

I think we're in good shape to hire a quality replacement. Fingers crossed, however LOL.

Huge change, no doubt. State of the college football scene, though. UK, while a very good job in a great conference, is now viewed as the training ground for the elites of CFB and, as we've seen with LC, perhaps even the NFL. Not a bad thing when you think about it but we need a few to stick around for continuity purposes and recruiting. If we could string together multiple 9+ win seasons (who'da thunk any long-term UK FB fan would EVER say that?), we might become more of a career job where you get all the $$$ and accolades you'd want and not look elsewhere except maybe the NFL. If Levis has another really good year and gets drafted in the 3rd or better round, we'll see 4*+ QB recruits wanting to come here and that would be a huge step up and a game changer for UK.

SEC has distanced itself from all other conferences and I think up and coming coaches know they can make a name for themselves by being successful here. Stoops is well respected nationally as a program builder and now has the admin backing him to a point where he makes all the calls (within reason) and we’ll pay to get whomever he wants. Sumrall to Troy, Coen to the Rams, Kelley wanted White; no doubt in my mind that guys are probably kicking down the door for this OC position. Success breeds success, I don’t see us turning back and I think we’ll have no problem bringing in a young NFL hot-runner that will max out our offense.

If this next OC hire is successful like Coen in jumping back up to a good NFL job, it will especially help create the reputation of Stoops/UK being a pipeline for NFL coaches…that will be awesome to see if continues to feed UK when the times comes for future hires.
