UK ranked #16 for week of March 27

I think it's important to win the series this weekend and beat UC during the week.

After that, things get tougher with a midweek game at UL, followed by road series at MSU (throttled UT this weekend) and Mizzou (had a 20-game win streak snapped Friday) and then LSU at home.

Rewatched the sat Miss game to win that series and those guys are very impressed with UK...color guysaid they were as good as any sec team he had seen with lots of upside!!

?...if you can't see the difference in the coaching , I don't know what to tell you.
Have not seen them play. Just glanced at their record and ranking when the season started. Not projected to do well. Think they went 0-4 to start. Glad to see them playing so well. Will check and see if I can do a Keeneland /UK doubleheader and get there. You can introduce me to Coach Mingione!

:sunglasses::sunglasses::sunglasses::joy:haven't met CNM myself I just love the breath of fresh air he and this staff have brought to the team and dugout ...they opened the season at unc and lost those first 4 games by a total of 5 runs. They have taken series from three clubs ranked in the top 25 when they played and at this point are 5-1 and lead the sec east...lead the conf in almost every offensive category and this with probably their two best hitter not playing much...also pitching staff is ranked fourth in the sec and the color guy on Sunday said that Lewis and Salow are as good a Sunday & closing pitchers as he's seen in the conference. Also said he thought they would only get better...

Here is a fun comparison:

2016 v. 2017
Evan White .376 .436
Riley Mahan .316 .310
Connor Heady .186 .280
Zach Reks .331 .371
Kole Cottam .278 .329
Tristian Pompey .233 .296
Tyler Marshall .233 .340
Troy Squires .205 .291
Luke Becker .241 .373
Marcus Carson .167 .350

These are all the same guys as a year ago and all but one of those starters has improved their hitting and the only one that hasn't is barely lower. Most of them are huge jumps and many of them are doing this in their final year here, so it isn't as though they are picking up after struggling as freshmen or something like that. Heady and Carson improving, and staying improved so far, even in SEC play, is simply amazing.

Gunnar McNeil .249 .304
Storm Wilson .267 .190

These are two that were major contributors or starters a year ago that are no longer starting and not having as big of an impact.

We also didn't lose anyone who was a major impact hitter a year ago. Shelby really struggled and Hairston was just above average, so they weren't huge losses. Still, the improvements in almost everyone are remarkable.

You just see so much more bounce and enthusiasm in the dugout and certainly much more aggressive at the plate and on the base paths, although sometimes a little to much I think...also, what happened to the younger Shelby?

If I'm not mistaken, he went the junior college route. His recruitment was odd from the start. I'm not sure he was even drafted last year.

He needs to get back home, we will only have 1 returning outfielder next season. He has impressive stats, and he would be the 3rd Shelby brother to play at UK.
I was looking at the stats wondering if we'll take a dip in hitting as we get into the meat of the SEC schedule and don't think it will be that bad but I did run into the fact that we only have 4 outfielders on the roster and three are indeed seniors. That seems pretty unusual doesn't it?

11 infielders (for 4 positions), 4 catchers, 7 LHPs and 9 RHPs but only 4 OF total.

Yep, Mr. Shelby should consider this !

Were grades an issue with Shelby, was he trying to fast-track to the minor, or really be close to family?
I really don't know. I was surprised he wasn't drafted last season because every publication identified him as one of the best prep players in the country. Not sure if his asking price was crazy or what but really strange he didn't get drafted at all. Junior college baseball offers a lot of advantages for kids. Being able to go there for a season and sign professionally rather than sign after three years has to be appealing for a lot of kids.
