UK overnight camp

Can he hit the 3 point shot? If so I hope Kentucky offers him a spot on the team.
He's actually very, very good. 5'9 165 going into 8th grade and can play the 1-5. He just did Western's camp last week and on his player evaluation they said he could become one of the best players in the state if he develops a killer instinct.

Having said that, I'm not foolish enough to think he will be a high d1 talent. But, I can always dream!

If he can just get a scholarship that’s better than most of us. I hope he continues to get better and does play for the CATS.

My 13 year old is headed to the 4 day camp tomorrow. I remember going when I was in 5th grade (Tubby Smith years). I know we are all down on Cal, but my son is so excited! I think it'll be a great experience for him.
I was fortunate enough to attend Pitino's Camp a couple times while in middle school and have many fond memories of the experience. Excellent basketball instruction overall. My team camp coach was Herb Sendek. Talk about a hard-ass but he knew the game.

Hope your son has a great time and makes lifelong memories.

Nice video, and he definitely has skills. You are and should be proud. Hope to see him in Rupp some day.
He needs to work on his walk. Looked a little slow. ;)

I'm proud because he works hard. Don't get me wrong, the fact that he's skilled is awesome, but he's always trying to work on his game. I respect that.

We had a thread on here when we were recruiting KAT and someone posted "I'd pass on him. He walks slow. Looks lazy." We all know how that turned out. Dude got roasted. I hope you got the joke, because he's really talented and you are and should be the proud pop.

Oh, I got the joke, lol. I'm just saying his skill isn't why I'm proud, but it sure is fun to watch.

This brought back memories I also attended the overnight camp during the Tubby Era.

I remember it being a fun experience and I had won the Free Throw competition and still have the plaque.

Surely you can find a cheaper way to teach a 13 year old to...run.....go....

We don’t have time for individual camps this year.. doing the father, son camp this weekend. High school ball in Ohio takes up the month of June. What AAU program does he play for and what is your July schedule? We have PrepHoops in Chicago July 8, Indy July 15, and Columbus July 22…

He plays for Team Chaos out of Hopkins County. We've got a Louisville tournament coming up and then Gatlinburg in early July. I'm not sure if they'll schedule beyond that or not.

Sure you know this. If he’s not on a shoe team make sure he is on a team that runs a strong independent circuit (PrepHoops, NY2LA, Hoop Group). My kid plays volleyball for his school…then in May he gets picked up by one of our stronger Midwest Basketball Club teams. It’s not possible for him to play VB and play a gold or 3SSB schedule so those independents give him the best advantage to be seen.

Update. We just picked him up from camp and he had a blast. There was decent competition there, however, he didn't get to meet the players until right before he left. They were only doing autographs and pictures if you were lucky enough to make your way to them (we were).

Cal was a no show, other than the extra ten dollars we spent at the move in day to get a pic and autograph. Outside of that, he wasn't part of any activities. He didn't even make an appearance at the end of camp ceremony.

I'm glad my son had fun, but it just seems crazy to me that the actual coach and team weren't involved at all. Especially for a camp called "John Calipari Overnight Camp"...oh well.

*Edit* He said Cal did show up periodically and took pics, but that was it.

Please keep in mind, all kids grow at different paces. For example I was 5'10 180 in 8th grade, but graduating HS 4 years later I was 5'11.75 & 195 (yep, grew at most 2" in HS, and I was young in my class 13 in 8th & 17 in 12th).
I graduated with a kid who when we graduated HS he was probably 5'7 & 120; 4 years later graduating from WKU he was 6'1 150.

But I'm sure your son will enjoy this and have a life long memory at this camp. And hopefully he can reach whatever his dreams are.

I appreciate the info. I have no doubt my son is skilled enough to play for any team in Kentucky (aau). I just have no idea how to get our foot in the door in that area. But I'm willing to do whatever it takes to give him the best opportunities.

Let me know how I can help. I’m connected really well here in the Midwest. Does he have a Twitter account? If so, lets connect and I’ll help.
