UK-Matthew Stafford trivia

What year did UK beat Matt?

the last time Uak won was in 2009. Joe Cox was QB

it’s the famous Ricky Lumpkin falling on a fumble at the +10? Yd line

Matthew is a good guy. He has given 7 figures to Detroit for neighborhood recreational developement, donated 1mil to the academics at UGA. His wife had a brain tumor removed a while back, which wasn't cancer, but still took a lot of rehab. Glad to see him get away from the Lions and still have a some health left.

Agree - I always liked Matthew Stafford, very under-rated IMO and probably because he played on a bad team for so many years

Big fan of Stafford, and like you, very happy to see him escape Detroit. Poor guy. It was really awkward when he was interviewed post-game after the conference title game and asked about leaving Detroit for LA. He seemed to feel like he had to rephrase the question in answering it... the subtext of the question was too obviously," How happy are you to be free of the Lions?" He has a lot to be proud of on and off the field. He's come a long way from his college days. He was always a player, but he's done carrying the beer weight and raising hell. He grew up awhile back now.

2006

We almost beat him and UGA again in 2008, as I recall he threw a TD pass either on the last play of the game or right near the end of the game and the Dawgs pulled it out 42-38

To AJ Green? I think that is who caught the TD, was right in front of me, and I remember we had great coverage, he just outjumped everyone.

When Cam Newton was at Auburn we tied the score with about 9 minutes to go and they screwed up the kick off so they started there next possession at the on. Of course they had a 9 minute 90 yard drive to win by a field goal at the gun.

I don't watch much NFL, but did tune in to one of the Ram playoff games and I was surprised by how much weight he had lost. He did know how to party as a college kid for sure, but becoming a daddy and his wife going through what she has will make a guy grow up.

Obligatory. I like Stafford, but will never forget this image of him after that 2006 game.

I was front row and they stormed the field Bumped in to Tony Dixon at the bud Dupree and Za’Darius Smith blackout game that basically retired the old ball coach and he said that night he would give everything in his bank account to be on that field. Loved Tony Dixon who Brooks got to come here b/c he told him he’d give him a chance at RB. He made them most of it. Had watched the entire time from him generating a buzz from his practice field efforts... all the way to him playing through an injury that Ga game to get the win.

Lindley was a freshman and sealed the win with the int.

I slapped Jacob Tamme’s shoulder pads hard as I could. He bear hugged me and kept on celebrating. Good thing Joker was a moron or we could have parlayed that momentum a decade sooner. But things happen for a reason. I think Stoops has us on the right track again.

Last time I was on the field was 2006, too old to rush the field now, besides, I have been there and done that.

As for 2008, my memory did not fail me, it was AJ Green with 1:54 to go in the 4th quarter.

I remember playing West Virginia in the Hall of Fame bowl. We were a big underdog and they had a highly regarded quarterback. I didn't know he grew up to be Jeff Hostetler.

Yes, it was Green. For those who want to see a great play that UK should have won, watch this one from the tight angle. You will see the throw, placement and mechanics of Green to secure the td. If I recall, it was a 4th down play. As a UK fan, ugh…
How many games like that have we suffered through pre-Stoops? too many for me to think about.

I think I remember an interview of Dicky Lyons jr. where he said he had a
dream that Mat Stafford stole his girlfriend!
Not quite. In his dream Dicky’s girlfriend broke off their engagement so he slapped her and Matt Stafford punched him in the face and said “never hit a woman”
