Ugo's Coming Out Party!

rainbow GIF

Oh you were talking about something else? 😂

Sorry but just don’t think ugo is going to flourish in a key role. He is a 12 minute/game guy at this stage. Cal has to have a big for him to feel good about his team and Bradshaw isn’t cutting it and he is reluctant to give Z a chance for whatever strange reason. I look for UGO/bradshaw to split 35 minutes between them with whoever cal feels is given them the best getting the lions share and Z might get 5 minutes (if he sees the floor at all).

Bradshaw did in his second game
No really but proves my point nonetheless. He had a solid game playing 29 minutes against Penn. season high in boards and points. Has been playing 20-25 minutes per game since and only reason hasn’t been more is he stays in foul trouble.

If Bradshaw ever had a stretch like Z had not sure he would ever come out of the game. That would have bought him at least 30 minutes/game for at least a 5-7 game stretch.
Endurance and experience.

He had his big splash because he was a novelty. They didn't know what he could do. It turns out that when you actually guard him he isn't a magical talent after all.

Admittedly not familiar with Florida this year, but if they have good guards, it will be a struggle for Ugo because cal will have him switching that ball screen 20 feet away.

Either way he's still better than Bradshaw. Bradshaw is no better on that switch and gives us virtually nothing in the paint

Bradshaw and Z have proven to be incapable of rebounding and defending in the SEC. Ugo has. This team has plenty of scorers. We need a reliable defender, rebounder and shot blocker. Once Bradshaw can hold his own on that side of the ball, then his offense obviously makes him a higher upside play. Just isn't good enough on the other end of the floor to stay in the game right now.

He sits during practices?
Not sure what kind of point you are trying to make? If it’s cal determines who plays the most with who practices the best then that’s quite laughable. You’re a cal nut hugger though so it’s not surprising.

Huh??? Z has 9 rebounds in 29 minutes and 2 of 3 games he has even played his minutes have been so broken up he has never even gotten in the flow of the game. Ugo had 4 boards in 25 minutes last game at Arkansas.

Ugo sits at number one in all-time single-season block percentage at Kentucky. He’s averaging 2.3 blocks in just 10 minutes per game to go with 3.3 points and 3.9 rebounds.

The good is Ugo is good at blocking shots, the bad is it seems a large majority of his blocked shots go out of bounds allowing the opposing team to retain possession. Need to work on blocking shots that lead to transition.

UGO is pretty fast for his size. Plays hard. Big upside and doesn’t demand the ball. I have been impressed. Still getting his timing as he missed the preseason.

Look for Z to have a good game back in Rupp tonight. He’s adjusting as well.

I have been impressed with his quickness this year (relatively speaking). Seems like last year all of his movements were in slow motion. Overall I have been pleasantly surprised with what he has given us. That being said I think his value is limited to 12, maybe 15 minutes/game for now. If Z gets much run at all tonight I will also be pleasantly surprised. I just don’t see cal wanting to risk having to take more minutes from Bradshaw on top of having to reduce Edwards role with the team. It’s pretty sad to look at things this way but IMHO that is exactly how cal thinks.

Yes, because in the last two games he gets burned and pushed around whenever he is on the floor. Being able to score doesn't matter if your guy scores on you every time.

You are going to have to take a few lumps while letting him adjust to the college game. And by lumps I don’t mean sacrificing games, rather you are going to have to let him play more than 1-2 minutes at a time and can’t take him out as soon as he gives up a negative play. That is the only way you are going to see if he is the best option of the 3. Defensively Ugo is now by a long shot but Z already brings as much, if not more, than Bradshaw does but Bradshaw will be the one playing and splitting the minutes with Ugo.

Last night I rewatched the last UK/ UF game (thank you Youtube TV). UK will definitely need a rebounding presence against the #1 rebounding team in the NCAA!!! In the first matchup both Bradshaw and Onyenso had some very positive spurts, but othertimes they were enept (defense, rebounding, not being strong with the ball, etc, etc).
Hopefully Thierro can get his legs underneath him and converts some bunnies???

The two primary #5's on UK and UF in their last three games:

UK (2-1)
Bradshaw: 18.3-mpg/ 3.3-ppg/ 4.7-rbpg/ 0.3-blkpg
Onyenso: 16.7-mpg/ 4.0-ppg/ 3.3-rbpg/ 2.0-blkpg

UF (3-0)
Handlogten: 29.0-mpg/ 13.0-ppg/ 11.0-rbpg/ 0.7-blkpg
Condon: 18.7-mpg/ 6.3-ppg/ 4.7-rbpg/ 1.0-blkpg

Just For Reference
Z: 9.3-mpg/ 5.3-ppg/ 3.0-rbpg/ 1.7-blkpg

Actually Z has rebounded pretty well.

LOL Z has blocked shots and rebounded. He allowed one guy to score and got yanked. Meanwhile he can stick the 3 better than everybody else on the team except Shep.

I'm happy with Ugo's defensive play and pleasantly surprised that he can hold onto the ball and finish at the rim this year. I also want to see if Z's first game was just a fluke. He needs some time to determine what he can do on the court...both sides.

And that play was a definite hook to get around Z. I don't think Z left the guy enough room to get by him without stepping out of bounds. But a good ole fashion hook job (uncalled) made it work.

He went 4/4 in one game. You're ready to call him a better shooter than Reeves or Dilly? I'd like to see him play more as well, we just haven't had the luxury the last couple of games. We needed these wins.

Currently, you aren't wrong. But, to me, there's enough potential for growth that's it really tempting to try to get him more min. I think by the end of conf play, he might just be pretty darn good.
He def has the potential to be good.

How many halves has Bradshaw had with 2 or more fouls? He seems to sit out a bunch.

My wife picked that hook up to Z watching the game. Not only that but Mitchell stood there under the basket and didn't even attempt any helpside defense, OLE'

I've yet to find any video evidence that Cal even approached Z with any congratulatory hug, verbal good job, high-5, pat on the butt during the Georgia game.
Not only that but who in the world pulls a player out during an 11-point outburst???? He did it to Z against Georgia and Dilly during hot streak in first half against S.Carolina. but Wagner can play 30 minutes, score 4 points!!!
