We have been to the plate 532 times in league play. We have struck out 140 times. That is about the same amount as a year ago, about an average of 9.3 per game, or approximately 26 percent of the time.

Worse still is probably that we only have 45 walks and 17 HBPs.

We hit for an average of .261 in league play, which probably isn't horrendous, but it seems like we struggle to work walks and get on base, and then we tend to strike out a lot as well.

Seems to me that there is not much that makes this team stand out in league play. One would think we run well... okay, but we are 18 of 19 on stolen bases while opponents are 15 of 18, not much of a difference there. We have struck out more hitters in league than we've struck out ourselves, but we've walked 70 compared to us walking 45 times. We hit .261 in league play while opponents hit .259, but yet we've scored 84 runs while giving up 97. So, clearly we struggle with clutch hitting. We have just 79 RBIs compared to 90 given up. Just 72 of those 97 are earned, so clearly defense regularly fails us, despite the fact that we have a higher fielding percentage than opponents.

Also, something interesting that I didn't expect:

In SEC play UK is being led in batting average almost entirely by 1st year players:

Felker - .368
Jump - .349
Thrasher - .304
Harris - .300
Fogel - .274

Church at .348 is the only one in that group that returned to UK from a year ago.

Ritter - .246
Estep .231
Liebert - .217
Rubalcaba - .204
Plastiak - .175

@enjyretirement2020 - Here is that player development you were concerned over.
